Position: Senior Financial Controller (m/f/d)
Department: Finance & Operations
Location: Madrid
Reporting to: Senior Director Finance & Operations
Type of contract: Fixed-term with possibility of extension
Employment type: Full time (Mon- Fri)

Working closely with the Senior Controllers and Accounting Team, the Senior Financial Controller is responsible for delivering financial transparency and analysis and the full range of controlling matters, operational and strategic, supporting managers and coordinators across the organisation to fulfil their financial management responsibilities.
Person Specification
* 5 years, hands-on controlling experience, preferably in a project based organisation
* Business degree or similar professional/educational standard
* Good knowledge and understanding of budgetary controls, financial management and processes, and project controlling
* Proficient in the use of modern accounting systems and controlling tools, as well as in MS Office
* A recognised accountancy qualification would be an advantage
* Self-reliant with high degree of ownership and customer focus; very reliable and quality driven
* Excellent numeracy and analytical skills
* Very good written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish. Knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage
Main Responsibilities
* Be a finance business partner to and support ECFR budget holders, Coordinators, and other stakeholders in financial controlling, advocating and bridging financial requirements
* Support the preparation of the annual budget and forecasts
* Operate processes and practices that ensure effective budgetary control
* Support effective management of individual budgets (projects, departments)
* Develop further and maintain effective Controlling structures, tools and processes and coach and develop budgeting skills in non-Finance staff
* Work closely with the Accounting Team and support monthly closing of books
* Maintain and advance the effectiveness and efficiency of the financial system and be a key user
* Work closely with the Development Team and provide financial support with proposals and donor reports
* Support the controlling team with grant audits and ad hoc requests
