The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed of an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team supported by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.
In April 2021, the CRG received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research' Award from the European Commission. This recognition reflects the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to align practices with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
We are seeking a motivated Operations Technician to coordinate and ensure that all operational services run smoothly and meet high-quality standards.
The new team member will work closely with the EGA Team Head and a diverse group of professionals, including system administrators, developers, data curators, project managers, and helpdesk staff, in collaboration with the European Bioinformatics Institute to coordinate Helpdesk activities, develop core services, and manage operations with partners and relevant projects. The Operations Technician will also contribute to competitive projects where the EGA Service participates, ensuring well-coordinated, timely, and impactful involvement.
The successful candidate will provide oversight and planning for the EGA helpdesk and operations team, including day-to-day priorities, identifying training needs, ensuring a consistent high-quality customer experience, and ensuring continuity of helpdesk and operations service. The EGA team is managed using agile methodologies, combining RT ticketing system, JIRA, and Confluence in a collaborative environment. The EGA is transitioning from a centralised to a federated resource, requiring new practices and guidelines as new nodes become operational.
The EGA (European Genome-Phenome Archive) is a resource for permanent secure archiving and sharing of human genomics. We host more than 16 petabytes of data, including over 3700 studies and 8600 datasets. The EGA is co-managed by the CRG and the European Bioinformatics Institute, actively participating in numerous international and national projects and contributing to establishing international standards in genomics and data security.
Whom would we like to hire?
Must Have
1. At least 1 year of experience with the management of operations, including systems, online services, or data management services.
2. Experience in scientific international environments.
3. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (system administrators, developers, data curators, project managers) to achieve operational goals.
Education and Training
A postgraduate degree in bioinformatics, life sciences, IT, or equivalent experience.
Languages
Excellent level of English, as it is the daily language for communication with the team and international partners.
Technical Skills
1. Familiarity with ticketing and project management systems such as RT, JIRA, or Confluence.
2. Advanced MS Office & Google Docs skills, particularly in presentations, documents, and spreadsheets.

Contract duration: technical and scientific activities contract, linked to project duration.
Estimated annual gross salary: salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales.
