Technical Asset Manager

Velto Renewables (Velto), a subsidiary of CDPQ (Caisse de Dépôt et Placement de Québec), is looking for a Technical Asset Manager to join its team in Madrid, Spain, and work closely with the Portfolio Manager and the Operations Manager. Velto and its subsidiaries currently hold a portfolio of operating solar PV assets of 200+ MW located in Spain. Additionally, Velto manages CDPQ’s 25% investment in a 600+ MW offshore wind farm located in the UK. Furthermore, Velto is developing a pipeline of 1GW+ of solar PV projects in Spain and it is anticipated that it will grow its investment and management portfolio to other geographies.
The Technical Asset Manager will perform overall technical asset management activities for a c. 200 MW solar PV operating portfolio located in Spain. He/she will be instrumental for the optimization of energy production and revenues and the identification of potential cost reduction initiatives, and the availability, transparency, and actionable use of information.
Responsibilities
1. General technical asset management of the PV and wind assets.
2. Monitor the Service Provider’s activity (Asset Management & O&M) to ensure the timely fulfilment of obligations and compliance with the contractual terms.
3. Monitor third-party service providers (insurance, market agent, etc.) to ensure compliance with contractual terms.
4. Communicate with key stakeholders (market players, O&M, land, government, and other suppliers or service providers).
5. Become familiar with the contracts for each SPV to understand the respective obligations of both parties.
6. Supervise contractual obligations and technical, commercial, and legal regulations.
7. Review Service Provider’s policies, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance with procedural, legislative, and contract requirements.
8. Review Site Preventative Maintenance Plans (PMP) and monitor performance against objectives.
9. Monitor the cybersecurity plan.
10. Review monthly maintenance reports, identify failings, and propose an appropriate response.
11. Monitor and report on KPIs.
12. Conduct analysis and prepare regular performance summaries comparing the relative performance of the different portfolios and identify opportunities for further improvement.
13. Implement improvement and optimization plans.
14. Cost control.
15. Ensure compliance with all HSE requirements and efficient claim management from Service Provider.
16. Ensure the integrity, H&S, availability, and reliability of operation of all equipment and elements that make up the assets.
17. Conduct plant inspections.
18. Monitor the revenues of the assets.
19. Support the company on technical M&A activities.
20. Support and develop various reporting activities.
Competencies
1. Good, demonstrable understanding of the requirements related to Spanish regulated PV projects.
2. Must be autonomous and pro-active: develop own workstreams and work across many different functions.
3. Strong aptitude to learn complex concepts (tax rules, energy policy, financial structures, corporate structures, business models, etc.).
4. In-depth technical knowledge of PV assets; knowledge of other technologies, i.e., wind.
5. Good understanding of legal concepts ruling Asset Management and O&M contracts.
6. Good level of comfort with data management: proficient at extracting and analysing large amounts of data and presenting information in an easy-to-understand way.
7. Ability to develop and implement report templates, analytical tools, and other O&M specific tools.
8. Good team player with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
9. High Level of Proficiency with MS Office suite of products (Excel in particular), SCADA.
10. Valid driver’s licence.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in relevant discipline (Engineering or similar).
2. Excellent command of written and spoken English and Spanish.
3. Between 1 and 3 years experience within the renewable energy industry working in the implementation and/or asset management/O&M of PV projects.
4. Experience working with PV regulated assets.
5. Experience working with wind assets.
6. Technical knowledge of other technologies.
