DEIMOS is seeking a highly skilled Avionics Architect to join the Functional Avionics team in Tres Cantos.
The selected candidate will support the development and design of advanced satellites mainly for Earth Observation missions.
This role will focus on the architecture and development of key avionics systems, with a particular emphasis on the Attitude Determination and Control Subsystem (ADCS) and AOCS for space vehicles.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience (at least 10 years) in avionics systems design, satellite technologies, and control systems for space applications,
and will play a critical role in shaping the future of space-based Earth observation systems. The work of the FAV Competence Centre is mainly oriented to design avionics architectures especially focused on AOCS subsystems, functional verification architectures especially for project phases C/D, FDIR definition, and interfaces definition to support GNC and Flight Software architects.
As a matter of reference, DEIMOS' activities cover:
1. Satellite formation flying
2. Rendezvous
3. In-orbit servicing (IOS) and active debris removal (ADR)
4. Entry, descent, and landing on planets (Earth, Mars) & natural satellites
5. Launch vehicles
6. Earth observation, up-stream (flight segment) and downstream
7. Interplanetary exploration and navigation
8. Unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAVs, UGVs)
9. System and mission design
Main Duties:
The following types of responsibilities are envisioned for the Avionics Architect:
1. Lead the design, development, and architecture of avionics systems for Earth Observation satellites, ensuring their performance, reliability, and integration into the overall satellite mission.
2. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, thermal, software, V&V Team, and systems engineers, to define requirements, interfaces, and system-level specifications.
3. Design avionics subsystems for fault tolerance, redundancy, and optimal performance in the space environment.
4. Oversee the integration of ADCS/AOCS components, including sensors, actuators, and algorithms, ensuring their seamless operation and compatibility with the satellite bus.
5. Support the validation, testing, and qualification processes for avionics and ADCS/AOCS systems, including participation in test planning and execution.
6. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, guiding the development of key subsystems and ensuring adherence to best practices and engineering standards.
7. Support the procurement team with technical assessment on the items to be provided.
8. Stay up to date with the latest advancements in avionics, satellite technologies, and space systems to drive innovation and continuous improvement in our designs.
9. Contribute to the preparation of technical documentation, including system specifications, design reports, and test plans.
