Primary School Principal

Position: Primary School Principal (Head of Primary) (50% teaching and 50% leadership allocation)
Reporting to: Head of School

Raoul Wallenberg International School in Palma, Mallorca, is seeking a passionate, organised, and strategic thinker to join our leadership team as Primary School Principal.
This is a unique opportunity for a leader who thrives on teamwork and leads by example, helping to build a future-focused, holistic education programme from the ground up in only the second year of the school's operations.
In this pivotal role, the Principal will take full responsibility for the daily operations and coordination of the primary school, while also playing an integral part in shaping its long-term direction.
Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Principal will oversee student wellbeing and curriculum development and delivery, lead the team through the RWIS professional development, support, and evaluation programme, and ensure the provision of high-quality teaching, learning, curriculum and assessment.
This position is ideal for a candidate who is committed to holistic education that fosters the physical, social, emotional, and academic development of all students.
As a two-form entry school with a capacity of approximately 200 students in Years 1 to 6, RWIS offers a nurturing environment of approximately 16 students per class where high levels of differentiation, collaboration, and innovation are expected.
Position Scope
Core Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage teaching and learning, ensuring high educational standards across the Primary division.
2. Oversee student life, with responsibility for the welfare, behaviour, and personal development of all students.
3. Contribute actively as a member of the School Leadership Team (SLT) to all aspects of school strategic and daily operations.
Leadership and Management:
1. Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), which includes the Head of School, Business Operations Manager, Student Life Coordinator, and Curriculum Coordinator.
2. Take full responsibility for the daily operations and coordination of the primary school.
3. Lead the primary school team, fostering collaboration among classroom teachers and learning support specialists.
4. Work closely with the HOS to formulate and periodically review the development plan, strategic objectives, and priorities for the Primary division.
5. Review and refine policies to support the achievement of these objectives.
6. Oversee pastoral care, with responsibility for the welfare, behaviour, and personal development of all students.
7. Monitor progress and ensure targets are met.
8. Provide professional and personal support to primary school teaching staff, fostering a culture of growth and continuous development.
9. Deputise for the HOS as required.
Program Development and Oversight:
1. Actively contribute to the development and growth of RWIS's core programmes, including character education, sustainability initiatives, and performing arts.
2. Lead the design and implementation of innovative projects and service-learning opportunities that foster student engagement with the local and global community.
Human Resources:
1. Line manage all primary school academic staff, with oversight of disciplinary matters.
2. Conduct regular appraisals, lesson observations, and review action plans to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning.
3. Use performance management systems to support the professional development of staff.
4. Contribute to the recruitment and development of both teaching and non-teaching staff.
5. Organise timetables and staff duties to ensure smooth operation and optimal resource allocation.
Resource Management:
1. Propose and manage the primary school academic budget, including department budgets, ensuring mission-driven spending and efficient use of resources.
2. Plan and manage staffing, timetabling, and other operational needs.
Leader of Learning:
1. Promote high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment practices across the primary division.
2. Oversee the development, organisation, and implementation of the Early Years & Lower School curriculum.
3. Design and oversee an approach to assessment for learning and assessment of learning.
4. Incorporate elements of character development, design thinking, or service-learning into teaching practices.
5. Ensure that the curriculum offers individual students a coordinated and comprehensive learning journey.
6. Ensure appropriate support mechanisms are in place for students of all abilities.
Student Life:
1. Work with the Student Life Coordinator in the development and implementation of policies and programs focused on the personal, social, and emotional development of students.
2. Oversee the induction process for new students.
3. Promote positive behaviours and respect among students.
4. Manage the escalation of individual student behavioural concerns.
5. Communicate effectively with staff and students.
6. Ensure the welfare and well-being of every student.
7. Collaborate with parents, carers, and external agencies as required.
Community Engagement:
1. Act as a key authority and point of contact for parents and guardians.
2. Promote the participation of the school community in achieving goals.
Teaching Responsibilities:
In addition to leadership duties, the Primary School Principal will maintain a roughly 50% teaching allotment within the primary division.
1. Working as a classroom or specialist subject teacher.
2. Providing learning support for students requiring additional assistance.
3. Acting as an English as an Additional Language (EAL) specialist.

Ideal Candidate
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in Education (Master's degree preferred).
2. Proven leadership experience in a primary school setting, ideally within an international school context.
3. Experience with the Cambridge International Curriculum, British National Curriculum, or IB Primary Years Program (PYP).
4. Strong teaching experience in primary education.
