The Maintenance Technician carries out maintenance and repair work to electrical and/or mechanical installations or equipment (such as production machinery, rotating equipment, electrical installations, transport systems, buildings, facilities and constructions) to ensure technical assignments are executed on time, safely, and according to specifications, supporting the optimal running of production.
The Maintenance Technician operates within a production/technical department, focusing on preventive and corrective maintenance. The main purpose of this role is to prevent any malfunction of the equipment, apparatus, machinery, or systems used in the production process.
The Maintenance Technician may also support other facilities beyond production, such as R&D laboratories, office facilities, and technical buildings (utilities) and systems for logistics and storage. The role includes troubleshooting to keep the production process running and performing tasks to prevent future disturbances.
The job may be specialized in one technical discipline (such as construction, mechanical, rotating, electrical) or may require broader skills, allowing the Maintenance Technician to address issues in related technical areas. Depending on the size of the facility, the number of Maintenance Technicians may vary in technical disciplines and expertise levels.
At the highest job level, the “all-round” Maintenance Technician is capable of addressing any issues that might occur, troubleshooting, and solving technical problems in an expert role.
Job Description:
Inspections and Preventive / Planned Maintenance:
1. Checks and assesses the condition of handling equipment, pneumatic and/or mechanical/electrical systems, and installations based on maintenance schedules/checklists.
2. Restores (imminent) defects and performs corrective maintenance activities arising from inspections (according to schedule).
3. Signals potential flaws to the superior with details of the nature and severity, proposing solutions to avoid future or recurring problems with the functioning of equipment/machinery/transport systems.
4. Orders spare parts and materials for maintenance.
5. Works on planned maintenance activities of a more extensive and/or complex nature (i.e., during maintenance stops) and may supervise technicians of third parties.
Malfunctions and Defects / Repairs:
1. Troubleshoots malfunctions and defects in equipment, machinery, measuring and control systems, and other parts of the installation.
2. Assesses the nature and extent of the problem and determines whether immediate repair is necessary or possible, assessing any fault causes and potential solutions.
3. Performs emergency repairs, disassembles parts of equipment/machinery, and makes necessary repairs/changes, if needed in consultation with the supervisor.
4. Performs more extensive repairs at scheduled times based on prepared planning and instructions (disassembly/assembly, parts replacement, set/adjust parts).
5. Works with colleagues on jobs of a more extensive and/or complex nature and may supervise technicians of third parties.
Modifications and Improvements:
1. Carries out modifications and overhaul work based on work orders and/or instructions from the supervisor.
2. Proposes improvements in equipment, machinery, and other areas based on expertise and experience in maintenance.
3. Consults with management on quality issues, technical problems, etc.
4. Orders the (re)making of certain components from drawings.
5. May perform various techniques (welding, lathe and plate work, machining).
Reporting:
1. Logs all maintenance activities in the appropriate maintenance management systems to maintain complete administration and insight into the state and history of all equipment, filing all technical data.
Compliance:
1. Works in compliance with all relevant safety regulations and procedures (work permits, LoTo, etc.), as well as technical standards.
2. Signals potential hazardous and/or unsafe situations, taking appropriate action in case of imminent unsafe situations.
