Tech Lead / Architect – Customer Portal

Job Summary
We are seeking a seasoned Tech Lead as part of the Digital Sales & Services team in our central marketing function, with a robust full stack development background to spearhead our customer portal initiatives, including integration of customer portal capabilities with product web sites. This pivotal role involves not only leading the technical development, stakeholder interactions and organizing the workflow using SCRUM methodologies.
The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of both frontend and backend systems, with proven experience in driving projects to successful completion. You will guide our development teams, collaborate with product owners, and ensure our customer portal solutions and applications are scalable, efficient, and aligned with business goals.
Responsibilities
* Lead the technical planning, development, and enhancement of our customer portal platform with a hands-on approach in coding both frontend (Next.js, Angular, React) and backend (Node.js, Java, and .NET) components.
* Collaborate closely with technology teams in engineering, marketing and IT to align on global roadmaps and leverage work provided by other teams.
* Drive the architecture of the customer portal by facilitating informed architecture decisions together with key stakeholders and systematically documenting Architecture Decision Records (ADR).
* Serve as the main point of contact for project stakeholders, effectively communicating technical challenges and progress, and ensuring their requirements are met in a timely manner.
* Organize and lead SCRUM sprints, facilitating sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to ensure efficient and effective team performance.
* Mentor junior developers and engineers, fostering a collaborative team environment to encourage knowledge sharing and professional growth.
* Oversee the integration of the customer portal with other systems, ensuring robustness and scalability of the platform.
* Develop and implement best practices for code quality, security, scalability, and maintainability.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging the latest technologies and methodologies in full stack development.
* Manage and prioritize the product backlog in collaboration with product owners and other stakeholders.
* Collaborate with marketing and sales teams on product launches and go-to-market strategies for new features and digital service releases.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
* Proven leadership skills with at least 3 years of experience as a tech lead, architect or senior developer role, ideally within an e-commerce or similar technical environment.
* Excellent communication (English) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements
Willingness to travel about 10%-15% of the time, mostly EMEIA.
* A high desire to learn and grow, paired with a diligent work ethic and strong curiosity about technology.
* Strong project management skills and experience in managing stakeholder expectations.
* Proficient in database management, both SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB).
* In-depth understanding of REST and GraphQL APIs, and experience with modern development practices and tools (Webpack, Babel, npm).
* Experience in continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) environments (e.g., GitLab).
* Experience with development of cloud services and the integration with SaaS services, especially MACH services, into a composed solution.
* Extensive experience working in multi-team environments, and related architecture principles (e.g., API-first, microfrontends) and agile methodologies such as SCRUM or SAFe.
