Job Description:
Mechanical Lead Engineer
The Mechanical Lead Engineer oversees all engineering activities related to mechanical design, ensuring timely delivery of relevant project milestones within scope, quality, and established standards. This role estimates and manages mechanical engineering-related project risks, owns the planning and scheduling process, and serves as the primary point of contact for mechanical engineering matters.
This position functionally reports to the Project Manager in respective projects or, if appointed, to a Project Lead Engineer. Additionally, the role is involved in the entire project lifecycle from sales through engineering to handover.
* Key Responsibilities:
General Responsibilities:
* Identify improvements to the engineering process and prepare supporting documentation.
Project Readiness:
* Support the Sales team during the sales phase by providing technical advice, assisting with estimation efforts, creating project schedules, and understanding the required engineering skill set.
* Review the As Sold solution.
Project Management:
* Evaluate that resources from the Mechanical Engineering Team possess the correct skill set to execute the project.
* Act as the main Mechanical Engineering point of contact for the Project Manager, Site Manager, Procurement, Manufacturing, client architect, builder, and design consultants.
* Lead project Mechanical Engineering teams through task allocation and reporting.
* Create and update Mechanical Engineering project status reports, financial forecasts, and schedule updates (resources updates), ensuring Mechanical Engineering cost control.
* Document, escalate, and manage Mechanical Engineering project risks (including preparation of the Project Status Report) / Project Variance Request).
* Evaluate that all project Quality Gates are met for Mechanical Engineering.
* Conduct regular on-site safety audits when visiting a site and advise on any special installation requirements; derive actions.
* Identify and propose Lean improvements.
* Support lessons learned sessions and project closing.
On-time Delivery of Key Deliverables:
* Evaluate that Bill of Materials) and the project procurement plan for Mechanical Engineering products have been completed and ordered.
* Check and approve specifications for purchase items/services.
* Evaluate the quality of all necessary documentation to execute mechanical installation on site has been provided on time.
* Manage completion of Design Risk Assessment and Safety design validation during the mechanical design stage.
* Evaluate the delivery of key deliverables i.e., basic Layout, 3rd Party specs., List of static and dynamic loads, layout drawings, Hazard assessment.
* Evaluate that a checklist for the mechanical installation has been done and the site is ready for the next phase, which is electrical installation.
* Evaluate the correct transmittal of all Mechanical Engineering Deliverables to the Customer i.e., layout drawings.
* Evaluate the right technical information has been provided for the Customer Service training.
* Evaluate the project technical documentation is completed.
* Identify improvements to the engineering process and prepare supporting documentation.
Qualifications and Requirements:
* Essential: A degree-level understanding in a technical engineering discipline.
* Desirable: Understanding or qualification in Machinery Safety.
* Experience in a similar role is desirable.5+ years hands-on experience working within an industrial automation environment.Experience leading project teams on complex projects.A working understanding of technical manuals & drawings, Mechanical/Electrical.Working knowledge of ISO standards governing the automated warehouse industry.
* Travel approximately 15% (dependent on the project stage) within EMEA.
