In Sateliot we are looking for a Senior Avionics Engineer, willing to face the challenges of a fast-growing space telecom startup!Ready to be part of the challenge?Who we areSateliot is a Barcelona-based Startup in the New Space sector, becoming the first satellite telecommunications operator that will provide global and continuous connectivity to all the elements that will make up the massive Internet of Things (IoT) universe under the 5G protocol. In order to do so, Sateliot is launching a constellation of last generation nanosatellites, located at low altitude that act as mobile towers. Sateliot is the perfect complement for large telecommunications companies by providing them with the necessary infrastructure where terrestrial technologies do not arrive.Your missionIn your role as a Senior Avionics Engineer, you will join the Flight Avionics Team, working in collaboration with multi-disciplinary skilled engineers in charge of evolving Sateliot’s space capabilities to provide the first and best NB-IoT NTN service to emerging users around the world. You will contribute to the design, implementation and validation of flight electronics and hardware. We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer with expertise in designing high-speed electronic boards for telecommunication satellite applications. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing multi-core CPU and FPGA-based systems, ensuring radiation tolerance, and conducting thermal and vacuum validation of electronics for space environments. This role will involve schematic design, PCB layout, and design reviews to ensure performance and reliability in space applications.Your main functionsHigh-Speed Board Design:Design and develop high-speed schematics and PCB layouts for satellite telecom applications.Implement multi-core CPU, FPGA, DDR memory, and high-speed serial interfaces.Optimize signal integrity, power distribution, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).Perform component selection, worst-case analysis, and circuit simulations.Schematic & Layout Development and Review:Create detailed schematics using industry-standard ECAD tools.Collaborate with PCB layout engineers to ensure proper layer stack-up, routing, impedance control, and thermal considerations.Conduct peer reviews of schematics and layout designs, ensuring compliance with space industry standards.Work closely with mechanical and thermal engineers to ensure PCB mechanical fit and thermal management.Radiation-Tolerant Design:Develop electronics with radiation-hardened or radiation-tolerant components.Implement mitigation techniques such as TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy), EDAC (Error Detection and Correction), and latch-up protection.Conduct radiation analysis and select space-qualified components.Testing & Validation:Perform temperature cycling, thermal vacuum (TVAC) testing, and vibration testing to qualify hardware for space.Conduct functional and parametric testing to validate performance across mission environments.Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues through lab testing and simulations.Cross-functional Collaboration:Work closely with mechanical, thermal, and systems engineers to ensure design compliance.Coordinate with manufacturers and suppliers for PCB fabrication and assembly.Support system integration and provide technical expertise during qualification campaigns.RequirementsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field.5+ years of experience in high-speed board design for aerospace or satellite applications.Strong expertise in:Schematic capture and PCB design tools (Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or Mentor Xpedition).High-speed digital design (multi-gigabit SERDES, DDR4/DDR5, PCIe, Ethernet).FPGA/SoC-based system design (Xilinx, Microchip, Intel FPGAs).Power supply design for space applications.PCB layout review for signal integrity, power integrity, and manufacturability.Experience designing for radiation tolerance in LEO/MEO/GEO satellite environments.Hands-on experience in thermal vacuum testing and environmental qualification.Familiarity with space industry standards (ECSS, MIL-STD-883, NASA EEE-INST-002).Preferred qualificationsExperience with SPICE simulations (LTSpice, HyperLynx) for signal and power integrity analysis.Knowledge of radiation effects on electronics (TID, SEE, SEL, SEU).Experience with Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW for test automation.Understanding of satellite communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, JESD204B, etc.).What you will find when working at SateliotYou will be part of one the fastest-growing start-ups in Spain with global reach along getting into the challenging world of New Space & Telecommunication. Our culture is based on embracing openness by welcoming multicultural talent, being respectful with everybody and being open to exchange ideas.
