Job Description:
A vacancy for a Space Chief Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Madrid (Getafe). The successful applicant will join the EOS Chief Engineering Department in Spain (TSESE3).
We are seeking a highly skilled Satellite Systems Engineer with a strong background in space systems development, verification and validation to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will lead the engineering efforts for satellite development projects, with a particular emphasis on overseeing the development logic and planning, and on ensuring the successful verification and validation of the full system.
You will work in a multi-disciplinary system engineering team and will be a key contributor to the on-cost, on-time and on-quality product delivery to customer.
Tasks & Accountabilities:
* In coordination with the satellite chief engineer, lead the engineering team in the design, development, and testing of satellite systems, ensuring adherence to project requirements and industry standards.
* Define the overall development schedule, with a focus on the engineering activities, establishing and maintaining internal and external dependencies.
* Work closely with the PMO to ensure alignment between the progress of engineering activities and the updated project schedule.
* Drive the verification and validation activities throughout the satellite lifecycle, from initial concept to on-orbit operation.
* Develop and implement a comprehensive V&V logic aiming at OTOCOQ validation of system functionality and performance.
* Lead / Contribute to the execution of program milestones and reviews.
* Play a key role in the coordination and transition from engineering to AIT, ensuring seamless integration and testing of satellite components, and a smooth way of working across the different disciplines (Engineering, ME, AIT).
* Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including AIT managers & technicians, systems engineers, project and industrial managers, to ensure project milestones are met on time and within budget.
* Support AIT and PA/QA teams in the follow up of tests execution and the resolution of anomalies and non-conformances.
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation within the team and across functions.
In addition to this, you will play a key role in:
* The deployment of novel engineering methods, processes and tools (e.g. MBSE).
* The digitalisation of our design, development and manufacturing processes (e.g. DDMS), and their smooth implementation across all involved disciplines.
* Orchestrating the operational relationship between engineering, AIT and programs, with a focus on the lean execution of programs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
* Proven experience (>10 years) required in:
o Systems engineering applied to satellites, ground and launch systems.
o Systems engineering processes, methods and tools.
o ECSS Standards.
o Satellite electrical, functional, mechanical and thermal systems.
o Space systems verification and validation.
o CONOPS definition and derivation of requirements.
o Coordination of program milestones and reviews.
o Schedule, risk and cost control.
o Proven experience as a Satellite Chief Engineer or similar role, with a focus on verification and validation.
* Strong background in space systems AIT management and execution.
* Deep knowledge of the processes and methods of space systems development, verification and validation, including industrial implications.
* Extensive experience in developing and executing verification and validation test plans for complex aerospace systems.
* Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
* Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for satellite development and testing, such as ECSS, MIL-STD, and CCSDS.
* Languages:
o Spanish.
o English.
o French, Italian and German are desirable.
