We are looking for a Backend Engineering Chapter Area Lead based in our Abelias / Luca de Tena office, with at least 10 years of specific technical expertise.

Your role
The Chapter Area Lead is the functional line report of a group of Chapter Leads that belongs to this specific technical expertise, backend engineering.
Aligns the practice and generates the environment that fosters knowledge and products across the organization.
Your main responsibilities will be:
1. Standardization
Defines together with Chapters, competencies, and best practices across all the organization’s areas: microservices architecture, patterns, and practices.
2. Competences mapping
Owns the complete picture of competencies, distribution and demand within the organization in his/her specific expertise as backend engineer.
3. Supports skills development
Ensures that Chapter Leads within the organization are properly equipped to ensure that skills development happens within their chapters.
4. Facilitating Knowledge Sharing across areas
Ensures that chapter members contribute to the organization by sharing knowledge across different areas.
5. Share Vision
As leader of leaders, must ensure that the company’s strategy and vision are spread across all chapters.
6. Assess and Prioritize Opportunities
Ensures that chapter activities that are relevant for the organization are properly managed to get done in time and manner.
7. Improve Engineering Productivity
Lead and boost the importance of improving productivity in the way we develop software, pushing for the use of any tools or practices that might increase output with less cost.
Your main tasks will be:
1. Chapter Leads’ members Mentoring and Coaching
2. Maintain the big picture of chapter’s members allocation and demand
3. Ensure that best practices are spread across the organization
4. Gather information about company’s products and ensure that Chapter Leads are equipped to prepare chapter’s members to use those products
5. Create or foster creation of technical contents for internal and external use
6. Foster a culture of engineering based on Tech Manifesto principles
7. Create forums, communities, and events that ensure alignment and reinforce the culture of engineering and innovation within the company
From a technical perspective, a Backend Chapter Area Lead:
1. Acts as a senior Backend engineer by delivering high-quality results in your chapters and providing technical guidance to the rest of Backend Chapters.
2. Designs and oversees the development of scalable, secure, high-performance backend systems.
3. Establishes and upholds best practices in software engineering, system design, and development processes.
4. Collaborates effectively with frontend, DevOps, and product teams to deliver cohesive, end-to-end solutions.
5. Optimizes backend systems for superior performance, reliability, and scalability.
6. Stays abreast of emerging technologies, evaluating their potential to enhance the organization’s systems and processes.
What you’ll bring
You’re sure to fit in if you like technology and are constantly learning about new developments, as well as having an interest in better understanding the risks faced by the Bank. In addition to developing your technical skills, you should also be interested in improving your soft skills.
If you think you’ve got what it takes, these are the key skills we’ll be looking for:
1. University degree, preferably in a relevant subject such as Engineering or Science.
2. Strong technical skills and specialist experience: Extensive experience in backend development with proficiency in programming languages such as PHP, Python, Java, Node.js, or Go.
3. Excellent communication skills

5. Ability to inspire people
6. Experience building and maintaining software applications: Proficiency in designing and managing APIs.
7. Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
8. Fluent English.
