Role overview
As the Head of Underwriting Performance and Management at DUAL Europe, you will be at the forefront of driving excellence and innovation in underwriting practices. Reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, you will lead transformative portfolio analysis and governance initiatives, ensuring that our underwriting standards not only meet but exceed regulatory requirements. Your role will be pivotal in harnessing the power of data analytics to uncover insights, predict trends, and shape strategic decisions that propel our business forward. With your expertise and vision, you will inspire and guide our teams to achieve unparalleled performance, fostering a culture of transparency, compliance, and continuous improvement. Role responsibilities
Portfolio Analysis:
* Support Europe CUO in overseeing themed reviews and executing remediation for underperformance.
* Manage and document portfolio analysis processes for carrier sharing.
* Ensure effective communication with stakeholders.
* Collaborate with CDO and Group Data to leverage data for strategic underwriting decisions.
* Investigate trends in underwriting and claims data to support decision-making.
* Provide guidance on data interpretation, including inflation reporting.
* Harness new tools for product-agnostic analysis and champion data governance.
* Utilize data analytics to enhance underwriting practices and accuracy.
Underwriting Governance Standards & Controls:
* Support CUO Europe in establishing a governance framework that complies with regulatory requirements and Group standards.
* Ensure regional execution and monitor performance to minimize risk and maximize efficiency through peer reviews, underwriting authorities, exception reporting, new product governance, and internal audits.
* Maintain thorough documentation of underwriting decisions for transparency and regulatory reporting.
* Provide regular reports on underwriting performance, risk exposures, and compliance to the executive team and board.
Compliance & regulatory:
* Assist CUO in preparing governance reports summarizing performance, key risks, and compliance.
* Maintain transparent communication with stakeholders regarding underwriting strategy, risk tolerance, and governance matters.
* Ensure underwriting practices comply with regulations and carrier requirements to prevent legal issues and penalties.
* Maintain accurate records and handle correspondence appropriately.
* Collaborate with legal and compliance departments to address regulatory requirements and mitigate compliance risks.
* Contribute to recording and measuring insurance risks, including DUA’s, to ensure accuracy and good practice.
Key requirements
* Persuasive verbal and written communications skills and an ability to proactively influence others.
* Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and methodically.
* In depth knowledge of underwriting practices and business lines with proven experience in underwriting operations / underwriting management.
* Strong reasoning capabilities – creative and lateral thinking, with strong problem-solving skills
* Ability to interpret statistical data including identification of trends influences and anomalies and micro and macro levels.
* High level of knowledge in relation to data set strategies, market dynamics and legislative influences.
* High level of numerical, analytical and logic skills, enabling to analyse data and use for decision-making
* Excellent knowledge of statutory/regulatory regime.
* Knowledge and understanding of financial and actuarial principles to assess risk.
* Significant experience of contributing to the management of a complex financial services business at board level, spanning several national boundaries/regulatory regimes.
* Professional proficiency in English
