At RDT Engineers, we are looking for a GRID CONNECTION ENGINEER.
Main purpose of role:
Reporting to the Grid manager for South Europe, this role is responsible for the Grid connection of the generating plants supporting the projects from the Development stage through Engineering & Construction to the Operations stage.
Key tasks will involve:
1. Review the design of the Grid connection infrastructures up to the Point of connection to the TSO grid including Protection, Control & Measurement diagrams.
2. Deeply understand the Grid code technical and administrative requirements.
3. Identify risks for the Grid compliance before connection and during operation.
4. Manage Grid contractors and their power system simulation works as well as manufacturers simulation models.
5. Support the different stakeholders with Grid code clarifications and any documentation and site tests requested by the TSO to approve the Grid connection on time.
Responsible for:
1. Assuring compliance of the power plants with the Grid code compliance technical and administrative requirements.
2. Providing technical support to the different stakeholders including Development, Procurement, Lead Engineers, Construction, Operation, etc.
3. Participating in the selection of the necessary capabilities of wind turbine generators, PV inverters and BESS to meet the Grid code requirements.
4. Participating in the design of the preliminary and detailed design of the electrical infrastructures up to the Point of connection with the existing TSO grid such as MV and HV lines and substations.
5. Participating in the definition of the necessary equipment so the power plant can provide the required capabilities. This might include reactive power compensation equipment such as capacitor banks and shunt reactors, harmonic filters and FACTS (e.g. STATCOM, SVC, SynCon, etc.).
6. Providing support to the definition of the Revenue metering system.
7. Providing support to the configuration of the different controls (V/Q, P/f, etc.) in the Power Plant Controller.
8. Managing all the necessary simulations to prove compliance with the Grid Code requirements with contractors, in the different domains (steady state, RMS, EMT, frequency).
9. Managing all the Grid documentation necessary to get the TSO approval for connection of the power plant, including technical datasheets and certificates, simulation reports, FAT reports, Grid code site test reports and certificates (EON/ION/FON stages).
10. Supporting the site tests requested by the TSO to verify the capability of the power plant to comply with the Grid code requirements and carried out by the different contractors (EPC, WTG, Grid, etc.).
11. Support in the design of Telecontrol system of the power plant with the TSO.
12. Providing technical support to the Energy markets team identifying revenue streamlines and guiding them in the Road to Market process.
13. Supporting the Development team with the identification of opportunities or requirements to secure capacity in the TSO grid for new projects.
Technical skills:
1. Electrical Engineering degree.
2. Experience within a Grid management technical and regulatory environment, and very strong understanding of the Renewables generation business and its assets’ connections points, local grid issues and generator capabilities.
3. Able to demonstrate strong technical skills and a detailed understanding of power system operation, Q/V and P/f controls, load flows, protection & control systems as well as renewable energy capabilities.
4. A C1 level in Spanish and English is mandatory and a B2 level in Italian or Greek would be a plus.
5. Able to demonstrate power system simulation software experience especially DIgSILENT Power Factory but also PSCAD or PSS/E.
Location: Bilbao.
Project duration: 1 year with possibility of continuation.
