The Role
As a Claims Handler, you will deliver a high-quality service to Hiscox clients and brokers while maintaining and enhancing the company’s reputation for outstanding claims handling. This role focuses on managing a selection of high-technical complexity claims, particularly those with potential material or reputational impact. You will bring strong legal and analytical capabilities to assess claim severity, determine appropriate next steps, and manage indemnity spend—always with a customer-first mindset.
You will report directly to the Claims Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Claims Handling (90%)
1. Handle a selection of complex and high-value claims within your authority level, particularly across lines such as Professional Indemnity, D&O, Cyber, and Property.
2. Act as a technical referral point for the rest of the team, supporting less complex case handlers on strategy and resolution where needed.
3. Collaborate with the Claims Manager on particularly sensitive or high-severity claims.
4. Ensure timely, fair, and consistent resolution of claims, in line with Hiscox claims philosophy.
5. Coordinate with external providers and experts, overseeing quality and cost control.
6. Provide technical input on claim reviews and audits to ensure adherence to best practices.
7. Support the management and reporting of key claim metrics and emerging trends.
8. Work closely with Underwriting to provide insights and review policy clauses when requested.
9. Maintain accurate claim records using our Claims Management System (CMS) and AGORA.
Support & Communication (10%)
1. Deliver technical training and guidance to colleagues when required.
2. Provide regular reporting to Claims Management and other stakeholders on specific claims or overall claims performance.
3. Ensure clear, proactive communication with brokers, customers, and external parties.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Skills
1. Bachelor’s degree in Law.
2. Fluency in Spanish and good level of English.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially with external stakeholders.
4. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret legal issues and apply commercial judgment.
5. Proactive, solution-oriented, and committed to high performance.
6. Highly organized, with strong time management and attention to detail.
7. Collaborative team player with a strong sense of accountability.
Professional Experience
1. Experience handling professional and general liability, cyber, or material damage claims in a law firm or insurance claims department.
2. 2–3 years of experience reviewing clauses and policy wordings.
3. Experience in a client-facing or broker-interfacing environment is an advantage.
