Your main mission: The Nature-based Solutions Projects Coordinator will help coordinate and lead Nature-based Solutions Projects at properties (hotels) in the EMEA Region (Europe and North Africa). This will be achieved through science based protection, restoration and management of ecosystems in and around the properties of Iberostar.
Location: the role is based at our headquarters in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
✔️What will your day-to-day work be like?:
Reporting to the Head of Nature-based Solutions, you'll be in charge of:
* Strategic:
Work with the NbS Team to identify, define and create strategies and actions to reduce environmental risk, improve and restore ecosystem services and enhance biodiversity.
Define research needs and develop projects and project proposals to meet those needs.
Manage multiple projects, successfully aligning with overall NbS goals, and coordinating with others to accomplish tasks. Seek to drive projects to be integrated within operation when applicable.
* Administrative:
Manage consultants and partners, in coordination with the Head of NbS, providing guidance, monitoring progress, reviewing deliveries and making recommendations.
Manage and process quotes and invoicing using established protocols.
Manage and oversee assigned budgets.
Complete administrative work required and coordinate with the sustainability staff to ensure compliance of requirements.
* Operational:
Implement science-driven actions to meet the NbS conservation strategy at destination level, creating timelines, identifying stakeholders, monitoring and reporting.
Document progress in a way that generates reports and results of publishable quality.
Work with the Regreening Coordinator in the implementation of the invasive species and regreening strategy.
Work with the properties to successfully implement projects and actions.
* Scientific:
Coordinate with the science team to identify research gaps for strategy implementation.
Help coordinate site visits for the science team.
Support data collection, if needed.
Work with the science team in the development of experimental designs for implementation within the coordinators area of responsibility.
Use the advice received from the science team and sustainability office to make project decisions.
* Representation and coordination:
Coordinate with the NbS, Wave of Change and Sustainability teams.
Engage with local government, NGOs, academia, businesses and any other relevant actor to accomplish the objectives.
When requested, represent the Nature-based Solutions department at meetings and conferences.
Coordinate in-person meetings with local NGOs, foundations or government agencies as needed to ensure the implementation of the NbS strategy.
Represent Iberostar at other functions and assignments which can include serving as institutional representative, form part of a committee, support grant writing and implementation, and serve as a subject specialist at targeted events.
🔎Who is the ideal person for this position?:
The successful candidate must have strong foundational understanding of ecology, preferably coastal and ocean ecology. The candidate should have strong leadership skills and management ability to apply science to transform practices. We are looking for candidates that can convert science-derived data into actionable projects that reduce environmental risk, improve and restore ecosystem function, and enhance biodiversity across their assigned areas of responsibility.
Studies:
* Masters Degree level or above in Conservation, Environmental sciences or Marine sciences.
* Knowledge and practical experience with coastal ecosystems in the Mediterranean.
* Knowledge in sampling and surveying with experience in data collection and interpretation.
Experience / / Background:
* Experience in project management with experience developing, coordinating, and implementing NbS projects.
* Experience with multi stakeholder engagements, government agencies interactions and community engagement desired.
* Advanced Open Water and diving experience.
Skills:
* A team player, with strengths in maintaining positive relationships with team members.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, creating and promoting positive and productive working environment with internal and external partners.
* Ability to transfer knowledge and provide guidance.
* Independent worker with initiative and ability to problem solve.
* Communication skills and public speaking experience preferred.
Tools:
* High skill-level in Microsoft office and Google G-Suite.
* Project management tools: as Project, Smartsheet or similar.
Languages:
* Spanish and English language fluency: at least B2-C1 level (mandatory).
* French is a plus (valuable).
Availability to travel to all our hotels in the EMEA region (Spain, Portugal, Greece, Montenegro, Tunisia, Morocco).
