ING's True International Payments department consists of approximately 100 employees of various nationalities, including Belgian, Brazilian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Dutch, Indian, Iranian, Irish, Russian, South African, and Turkish. We work together based in three different locations: The Netherlands, Spain, and India. Individual squads consist of five to nine engineers specializing in DevOps, Java, or FiServ's EPP (Payment Platform) Development engineering. Together, we maintain a cluster of Java applications built around a vendor application, 50+ interfaces, and the configuration of the central application itself.
Roles and Responsibilities
As a Payment Platform Engineer, you help ensure ING's international payments are processed flawlessly. This means you refine, specify, and configure new features in line with high-level business requirements or rulebook changes. Each squad owns its own set of services, configuration, and applications. This also means you functionally test what is delivered by the squad, align with our vendor at the content level, align with surrounding building blocks, and solve problems across environments – including production.
The position is suitable for analytical individuals who understand payments and have a keen interest in IT. ING continuously works on optimizing its services to customers and further enhancing its leading position as a reliable and expert bank. The department is dynamic, operating in a continuously changing and complex environment. There is plenty of room for innovation. If you are curious and continuously on the lookout for opportunities to deliver the best possible solutions, keeping compliance and security aspects in mind, you will fit right in.

* Excellent communication skills, fluent in English - both written and spoken.
* Strong alignment with Payment specialists converting complex business problems into IT solutions.
* The ability to devise ways to make solutions scalable & future fit.
* A willingness to share knowledge with and train less experienced colleagues.
In addition to substantive IT engineering tasks, you act as a coach of a Chapter (team) of engineering colleagues. You are responsible for all HR aspects associated with stimulating, motivating, and coaching the experts in your Chapter. As a Chapter Lead, you are responsible for the knowledge development of your employees within the ING Way-of-Work.
How to Succeed
You are a skilled and very experienced Engineer. You are substantively strong and focused on achieving the best and concrete results in your work. Better than anyone, you understand the wishes and needs of the IT department. Also, you are a real team player.
