Position: Financial Controller and Operations Specialist with Technical Background in Optics, Photonics or Engineering
Location:
* Barcelona, Spain.
Education:
* Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent work experience will also be considered.
* A Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Operations Management, or a related field will be appreciated; equivalent work experience will also be considered.
Languages:
* Fluency in Spanish and English (written and spoken).
Previous Experience:
* At least eight years of experience in financial roles (business finance, controllership, accounting, auditing, etc.).
* Experience in managing Spanish and European public grants is essential.
* Former work experience in small to mid-size industrial companies or high-tech start-ups will be appreciated.
* Technical background in optics, photonics, or engineering.
* Experience in operations management is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (forecasting, budgeting, financial modeling).
* Knowledge of Spanish Accounting.
* Experience in the management of Spanish and European grants.
* ERP work experience (Navision, SAP, or similar) will be appreciated.
* Familiarity with operations management tools and methodologies.
Personal Skills:
* Autonomous: capable of working proactively or with minimal supervision most of the time.
* Management and soft skills: capable of managing a small team.
* Strong organizational and operational skills.
* Interested in the start-up world and entrepreneurship.
* Curious about science and technology.
* Proactive and goal-oriented.
Travel:
* Availability to travel occasionally (mostly within Spain).
Job Functions:
Primary:
* Oversee the accounting entries and the company's accounting books, in close collaboration with an appointed external service provider.
* Prepare the official financial statements for the company.
* Lead the yearly audit process, being the primary point of contact for the auditors.
* Prepare regular financial reports for the Board of Directors and Investors.
* Regularly monitor the company's cash flow and cash position.
* Manage public grants: collaborate with external advisors, support and coordinate the preparation of necessary documentation to request public funding, and lead potential audit processes afterward.
* Manage relationships with banks.
* Oversee labor contracts and payroll processes.
* Ensure tax obligations are settled in due time.
* Manage accounts payable and receivable.
* Be in charge of any other administrative tasks as necessary.
* Manage and optimize operational processes to enhance efficiency and productivity.
* Coordinate day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with financial objectives.
Secondary:
* Proactively search for financial grants, soft loans, or other traditional financing instruments.
* Review legal documents.
* Support and oversee other back-office operations that could affect the finance function or the entire organization (IT systems, implementation of tools such as ERPs, CRMs, etc.).
* Implement operational strategies to support company growth and objectives.
