The selected candidate will work as a Predoctoral Researcher within the Low Carbon research group at BC3, contributing to the analysis of current adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) in Spain and in the European Union.
The role involves conducting quantitative and qualitative research to assess the effectiveness of different policy measures designed to promote electromobility and reduce reliance on combustion engine vehicles. The candidate will apply econometric and statistical techniques to analyse large datasets, provide insights into access gaps, and evaluate the potential of social leasing programs as a policy tool.
Additionally, the candidate will actively contribute to the broader work of the Low Carbon research group, engaging in interdisciplinary collaborations within BC3, and supporting research activities related to climate policy and sustainable mobility. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic and impactful research environment, engaging with policymakers, stakeholders, and the wider academic community to advance the transition toward a low-carbon and sustainable transport system in Spain and in the European Union.
Key responsibilities:
* Contribute to achieving the project’s objectives by conducting high-quality research and analysis.
* Support other activities and projects within the Low Carbon research group and collaborate with other research lines at BC3 to foster interdisciplinary synergies.
* Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and scientific publications, ensuring the dissemination of research findings in academic journals, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
* Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis, applying econometric, statistical, and modelling techniques to assess climate policies and sustainable mobility strategies.
* Engage with policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the research community to translate findings into actionable insights and policy recommendations.
* Assist in securing research funding by contributing to project proposals and grant applications.
Main requirements/skills:
* MSc in Economics with a strong foundation in econometrics.
* Expertise in quantitative methods, data analysis, and programming in R, including experience handling large datasets and applying statistical and econometric techniques to policy analysis.
* A deep understanding of Spanish and European climate policy and sustainable mobility is essential, as the role involves assessing and modelling policy impacts in these areas.
* The candidate should demonstrate strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) in English and Spanish are required, as the role involves engaging with stakeholders, preparing reports, and presenting research findings.
* Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS) or other spatial analysis tools is an asset.
* Knowledge of the Basque language (Euskara) is valued, but not mandatory.
* Experience in research projects related to environmental economics, transport modelling, or climate policy will be considered a plus.
