Summary:
The Procurement Director will play a critical role in managing the procurement process for Prime’s centre projects. Working closely with the Commercial Director and OFCI Lead to develop procurement strategies and ensure the timely, cost-effective acquisition of capital plant and equipment necessary for project execution. Reporting to the VP of Project Delivery, you will oversee all procurement activities from early project stages through to project completion, ensuring alignment with project goals, budgets, and timelines.
The Procurement Director will ensure a whole business approach liaising with the Construction, Legal, and Finance teams to develop plans and deliver on time services. Proactively identifying areas of opportunity, the Procurement Director plays a critical role in managing suppliers and tracking procurement performance for the organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Procurement Strategy & Planning:
1. Develop and implement comprehensive procurement strategies for data centre construction and operational projects in alignment with project timelines and budget constraints.
2. Collaborate with the Commercial Director to identify procurement needs and ensure alignment with the broader business strategy.
3. Collaborate with Construction, Finance, Engineering, and Legal teams to identify and support business objectives.
4. Make optimal trade-offs between schedule, resources, and scope, and apply advanced technical and business knowledge to address major risks, challenges, and obstacles.
5. Work with the Commercial Director to ensure procurement activities are integrated into the overall project delivery plan, minimizing risks and ensuring project success.
2. Supplier Sourcing & Vendor Management:
1. Lead the identification, evaluation, and selection of suppliers for construction materials, equipment, and subcontracted services.
2. Build strong relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring they deliver on price, quality, and delivery timeframes.
3. Oversee the development of supplier contracts, negotiating favourable terms to drive value and reduce procurement costs.
3. Contract Negotiation & Management:
1. Lead the negotiation and management of procurement contracts, ensuring compliance with project specifications, timelines, and legal/regulatory requirements across jurisdictions.
2. Collaborate with legal and project teams to ensure contract terms are clear, enforceable, and aligned with project objectives.
4. Cross-functional Collaboration:
1. Working with the Commercial Director and project teams to ensure procurement aligns with project delivery milestones and objectives.
2. Provide ongoing support for procurement needs throughout project phases, from pre-construction through to handover.
5. Cost Control & Budget Management:
1. Ensure procurement activities are conducted within the allocated budget, proactively identifying and implementing cost-saving initiatives.
2. Track procurement expenditures and provide regular updates to the VP of Project Delivery and Commercial Director on cost management and procurement performance.
3. Support the development and maintenance of accurate procurement forecasts, ensuring transparency and financial control.
6. Risk Management & Compliance:
1. Identify and mitigate procurement risks, such as supply chain disruptions, price volatility, or delays, through effective planning and supplier management.
2. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, industry standards, and company policies regarding procurement, sustainability, and health & safety.
3. Stay informed about industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes to ensure procurement activities remain efficient and compliant.
7. Reporting & Continuous Improvement:
1. Provide regular procurement reports to the VP of Project Delivery, highlighting key metrics such as cost savings, supplier performance, and procurement timelines.
2. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in procurement processes and implement best practices.
3. Utilize procurement data and insights to inform future projects and optimize procurement operations.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Commercial & Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or Relevant professional certification.
Experience:
8+ years of experience in procurement, with at least 3-5 years working within the data centre sector.
Strong background in managing procurement for large-scale projects, with a proven track record of successful cost control and supplier management.
Previous experience working closely with commercial, project delivery, and senior leadership teams is highly desirable.
Skills:
Exceptional negotiation and contract management skills.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers.
Proficiency with procurement software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and Microsoft Office suite.
Understanding of data centre construction, equipment, and operational needs is highly beneficial.
Preferred:
Experience managing procurement activities across multiple European countries, with a deep understanding of local regulations and market conditions.
Knowledge of sustainability and green procurement practices is a plus.
Knowledge of the latest trends and technologies in the data centre industry.
Working Conditions:
Occasional travel across Europe to visit project sites and meet with suppliers.
Hybrid work environment with flexibility to work remotely and on-site as required.
The role may require some flexibility in hours to meet project deadlines or address urgent procurement issues.
