Job Title: Financial Controller

Position Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Club as a highly skilled and detail-oriented qualified Financial Controller with at least five years of FC experience, reporting directly to the General Manager and Finance Director. The successful candidate will be the link between financial operations and strategy. This role requires managing a small finance team and eventually becoming the Finance Director, and driving financial initiatives supporting the Club's growth and stability. Given the Club has operations in Malaga and Gibraltar, the ideal candidate will be well positioned to spend time in both locations. The successful candidate will have had international exposure to the UK and or Gibraltar and confident in all aspects of accountancy with excellent leadership and managerial skills. Given the international spectrum of the Club the applicants should be highly fluent in English. Previous experience in real estate or investment funds would be advantageous.
Duties and Primary Responsibilities
1. Managing the finance department: Oversee the finance department’s daily operations to ensure efficient and accurate financial management.
2. Monthly and annual financial reporting: Manage the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts, annual financial statements, and board reports.
3. Budget comparison: Compare actual results to budgets, analyse variances, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
4. Treasury function oversight: This position oversees the treasury function, including cash flow management and the investment of surplus funds.
5. External banking relationships: Manage and maintain relationships with external banks and financial institutions.
6. Accounting procedures and policies: Maintain and document accounting procedures and policies to ensure compliance and efficiency.
7. Budgeting and forecasting assistance: Assist in the budgeting and forecasting processes to ensure accurate financial planning.
8. Technical accounting issues: Resolve complex technical accounting issues to ensure accurate financial reporting.
9. External auditor and bank relationships: Maintain strong relationships with external auditors and banks to facilitate audits and financial transactions.
10. Financial systems management: Oversee financial systems and manage external providers for upgrades and maintenance.
11. Business efficiency improvements: Identify areas to improve business efficiencies and reduce costs.
12. Team management: Mentor and develop finance staff to build a strong and capable finance team.
13. Strategic initiatives: Provide input into crucial transformation and strategy initiatives to support the Club’s objectives.
14. Collaboration with the Finance Director: Work closely with the Finance Director to deliver reports, analyse findings, and identify potential risk areas.
Qualifications
1. Language skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities in English.
2. Self-starter and highly organised: Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
3. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills: Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and other accounting packages.
4. IT systems and integrations: Strong experience utilising IT systems and managing integrations.
5. Minimum experience: At least five years of experience in a financial controller role.
6. Accounting principles and procedures: Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
7. Monthly management accounts preparation: Experience in preparing monthly management accounts.
8. Team leadership: Effectively motivate and lead the finance team.
9. Stakeholder relationship management: Ability to form strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
10. Organisational and administrative skills: Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
11. Energetic and motivated personality: Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
12. Computer software skills: Proficiency in Excel and other accounting software packages.
13. Professional accounting qualification: Professional accounting qualification.
