Introduction to Role
Vanderlande's Technology Department is responsible for the design, specification, and commissioning of material handling systems for our customers. In this position, you will work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative customer-focused environment to determine and translate customer needs into simple and effective design solutions, provide accurate time estimates, produce manufacturing and assembly drawings, manage documentation, and create BOMs. As Software Developer (PLC), you will design, develop, and test our PLC operating systems (Siemens TIA Portal & Allen Bradley STUDIO 5000). You will draw up the requirements for the systems and develop efficient and effective solutions together with the multidisciplinary project team. In addition, you will analyze risks, solve problems, and help to make improvements. These products will be used as building blocks by the Engineering department, who will subsequently integrate them into systems for our worldwide clients. Where necessary, you will support your colleagues in this integration process.
Role Responsibilities
1. Translate concepts into realized alternatives, with a focus on own discipline, taking into account functionality, feasibility, quality, manufacturability, costs, and completion time.
2. Make optimum use of team members' expertise.
3. Responsible for maintaining VI Equipment Product lines, including supporting documentation.
4. Define a planning for the work to be done, estimate the workload and lead time, and communicate to relevant colleagues about changes and risks pro-actively.
5. Adapt to changes and be solution-oriented.
6. Finalize a design and its deliverables, according to our processes, in order to guarantee a smooth transition to the relevant stakeholders.
7. Be a resource for coordinating technical details with VI Supply Chain.
8. Make improvements to existing equipment designs.
9. Occasional travel to manufacturing facilities and project sites to evaluate processes and design improvements.
Role Qualification and Skills
1. Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology (e.g., Electronics, Mechatronics, or Software related).
2. 3-5 years' experience in material handling or related industry.
3. Knowledge of TIA Portal, Studio 5000, etc.
4. Understanding of Electrical drawings.
5. Knowledge/Experience of EU and US electrical and safety norms.
6. Experience not only with PLC, but also with Frequency Inverters, HMI, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Direct experience designing automated systems with PLC controlled systems, including safety designs, motor protection and control, and Industrial Communication and networking (i.e., ASibus, Ethernet, TCP/IP, Profinet).
2. Experience in field engineering on-site.
