What your role is
Position Overview
The Packaging Development team works across Europe and Oceania, developing the next generation of products for the “Meals” category, with focus on brands: Old El Paso (OEP), Pancho Villa (PV) and Green Giant (GG).
As a R&D Packaging Engineer, member of a R&D Applications Team, you will be responsible for building and advancing consumer-first Innovation, cost savings, and supporting the building of core growth pipelines for the OEP brand. Your responsibilities for driving packaging development projects will split across innovation, core range renovation, sustainability, and margin management, enabling our business to win in the marketplace.
You will leverage your technical, influence, and project management skills. Partnering with cross-functional teams, manage internal & external stakeholders, and in some cases take overall technical responsibilities towards in-plant implementation.
The extension of this offer is limited to cover a maternity leave, both in terms of length and responsibilities.
Accountabilities
* Manage, lead and support projects for Packaging development: create and execute technical plans, risk assessments, and mitigation plans, create prototypes, manage timelines, provide effective communication and documentation of work.
* Actively collaborate with the factory team for the organization and execution of industrial trials. Build a trial report and communicate the conclusions.
* Build and keep packaging technical specifications up to date.
* Build strong relationships and work collaboratively with multiple cross-functional stakeholders, across R&D, Marketing, Sourcing, Supply Chain and External Partners to deliver winning packaging solutions.
* Communicate to business partners progress, risks and changes on active projects and influence decisions informed by deep consumer-, technical- and business understanding.
* Pro-actively lead collaboration with cross-functional partners to develop robust packaging pipelines across innovation, renovation, sustainability and margin management, based on consumer needs and business strategy.
* Build and maintain relationships with internal and external networks (e.g. suppliers, packaging schools, start-ups, external packaging organizations) to broaden perspective, identify areas of opportunity, leverage capabilities, apply outside-in thinking and effectively influence and gain support for initiatives.
* Stay abreast of packaging technology developments, regulatory landscape changes and competitive packaging activity to grow awareness and make informed decisions.
* Nurture connections within General Mills’ global packaging community, to share knowledge, exchange on technical challenges and align on corporate packaging initiatives execution.
What you will bring to the team
Skills/Experiences:
* Bachelor’s Degree in packaging, mechanical engineering, or any relevant science or engineering discipline.
* Minimum 4 years of related experience in FMCG industry.
* Minimum 2 years of experience on packaging development, focus on formats that go through a thermal process such as Hot filling, Retort or aseptic packaging.
* Demonstrated ability to lead new packaging ideation, development and commercialization interfacing with multiple stakeholders.
* Deep technical knowledge of interactions between product, packaging and equipment, focus on Sustainability projects and transition towards recyclable solutions.
* Experience with quality and regulatory considerations and practices.
* Structural Package/Creative design ability preferred.
* Consumer-First thinking; experience with applying design thinking practices.
* Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Fluent in English and Spanish, proficiency both written and spoken. Ability to communicate in French and/or Greek is a plus.
* Solid judgement, effective experimentation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
