Research Engineer for Infrastructure in Health Data Projects (RE1 / RE2)
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is a founding member of the European HPC infrastructure PRACE. The mission of BSC is to research, develop, and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress.

Context And Mission
The BSC and the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute (INB) are at the forefront of computational research and infrastructure development. Our mission is to develop cutting-edge infrastructure for ELIXIR projects and health-related research, enabling advancements in bioinformatics and computational biology. We are looking for a talented Research Engineer to join our team and contribute to these innovative projects.

Key Duties
* Programming: Demonstrate mid to advanced knowledge of programming and good practices, particularly in Python, Java, and/or R (other languages are also welcome).
* Software Architecture: Assist in designing and planning the development of software architecture and its components.
* API Integration: Integrate our developments with external APIs.
* Documentation: Document and publish data and software following FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) standards.
Requirements
* Education: Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
* MSc in Bioinformatics or equivalent experience is desirable but not mandatory.
* Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience: Strong development skills and experience with UNIX/LINUX environments.
* Familiarity with container development using Docker and/or Kubernetes.
* Experience working in a collaborative software development environment (e.g., git, CI/CD, documentation).
* Competences: Interest in applying computer science to biomedical sciences.
* Ability to explore and learn new technologies.
* Good communication and presentation skills.
* Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Conditions
* The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department.
* We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and support for relocation procedures.
* Duration: Open-ended contract linked to the project and budget duration.
* Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement.
* Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
