Responsibilities
* Provide regulatory legal advice and support to the Visa Europe business and the broader Visa Legal team.
* Work very closely with Visa’s UK and European Government Engagement teams.
* Interact and coordinate with Legal colleagues in the UK and the US.
* Identify and advise on key regulatory issues impacting the Visa Europe business.
* Identify new regulatory issues and challenges to Visa’s business and proactively advise on these issues.
* Identify the need for external legal advice and engage appropriate outside counsel on a range of legal and regulatory issues across Visa’s UK and European region, including management of outside counsel and budgets.
* Work with other Visa departments globally to identify issues affecting Visa and ensure consistency of advice.
* Manage, develop and maintain relationships with other Visa lawyers and business personnel to facilitate effective delivery of legal advice and assistance.
* Proactively contribute to the Legal and Regulatory Division’s planning, cohesion, consistency in advice, and general efficiency and effectiveness of the division.
Job Requirements
* Qualified regulatory lawyer with previous experience in competition law / policy or sector regulation, e.g., telecoms, utilities, payments, and / or financial services.
* A good understanding of the European regulatory environment and familiarity with EU legislation. We seek a qualified lawyer with the right qualities and experience. We will consider candidates who have qualified in any UK or European jurisdiction.
* Demonstrable experience at a recognised law firm and / or in-house in a regulated organisation.
* Strong academics and training, including legal drafting, negotiation, and relationship management.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills along with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as on own initiative.
* Ability to prioritise and manage a varied and busy workload.
* Positive attitude, high level of integrity, and intellectual curiosity.
* Fluent in English and another European language (Spanish or French preferred).
* Previous experience in a technology and digital legal environment and / or other sector-regulated environment.
* Knowledge of the Fintech and Payments industry (and applicable regulation).
* Previous experience of cross-border and multi-jurisdictional regulatory issues.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership / site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
