Principal Research Scientist, Books Store and Recommendation Experiences
The Amazon Books team is seeking a Principal Scientist to develop the next generation of personalized experiences. You will shape the vision of personalization for the Books store and apply advanced machine learning techniques to solve complex personalization challenges at a global scale. You will advise the Books demand leadership team in making our store the most customer-centric bookstore in the world.
Key job responsibilities:
1. Anticipate future challenges and identify business problems that affect our customer experience.
2. Tackle unique, unsolved problems at unprecedented scale, creating solutions that bridge scientific research and business needs to enhance the customer experience.
3. Lead the writing of influential internal and external publications that demonstrate originality and inspire new research directions in both internal and external scientific communities.
4. Influence Books' personalization efforts and beyond with your established reputation in advancing science.
5. Enhance how we integrate scientific knowledge into our customer-facing technology.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. PhD or equivalent Master's degree plus 10+ years of research experience in a quantitative field.
2. Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products.
3. Ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences, including large technical audiences, senior management, and customers.
4. Relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet timelines with optimal solutions.
5. Track record of developing intellectual property.
6. Consistent history of highly-cited publications pioneering innovation in personalization, recommendation, and related disciplines.
7. Demonstrated history of influencing standards bodies.
8. Recognition as a leading influential researcher in your field.
