This is a senior-level position that requires a self-motivated individual with strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.As the Associate, you will be relied upon to perform a variety of engineering activities and provide technical leadership for a diverse array of projects under the supervision of the department heads. This will include design, system analysis, and team management as well as selection of equipment, components, and systems with a strong emphasis on innovation and sustainability. You will represent the firm in all project interactions with clients, contractors, architects, and other project team members and may take on a project management role in medium to large projects. Strong initiative and follow-through are essential.Core ResponsibilitiesLead a team through the electrical design and construction administration processes for various project types including education, healthcare, office facilities, data centers, life sciences, and other commercial and industrial project types.Analyze and develop appropriate electrical design solutions for new and existing buildings with emphasis on high performance design and sustainability.Conduct analyses, review data, and prepare design options, recommendations, and cost estimates.Specify manufacturer’s equipment utilizing manufacturer catalogs (i.E., UPSs, panels, switchboards, transformers, etc.)Design emergency power supply system (EPSS), stand-by power, and critical power systems in accordance with NEC Article 700, 701, and 702.Design Medium Voltage (MV) systems.Participate in presentations to clients.Create project start-up documentation, notify marketing, and submit to accounting.Lead the development and execution of project scopes, budgets, and schedules.Schedule and track project milestones and deliverables in alignment with executed contract.Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path elements.Schedule and conduct internal meetings.Ensure that ATCE quality assurance procedures are implemented during the design process (design criteria and narrative submissions, design checklists, interdisciplinary coordination, schedules, etc.)Ensure that the preparation of project drawings, specifications, and reports meet the project schedule and are consistent with client requirements and standards. Check all technical work for accuracy and review with team leaders from each discipline involved in the project.Assign duties and schedules within the project team and instruct project team members.Assist with establishing electrical design standards, specifications, and criteria for projects.Review change orders and prepare project budgets.Perform project management duties for small to medium sized projects acting as the lead engineer and project manager responsible for overall project delivery and budgets.Lead construction site observations, sustainability analyses, feasibility reports, life cycle cost analyses, and Basis of Design (BOD) reports.Perform voltage drop calculations, short-circuit calculations, breaker coordination studies, Arc Flash studies, etc.Develop and maintain positive client relationships; respond promptly to inquiries and initiate contact when needed or delays are imminent.Communicate directly with clients and, if required, act as the primary point of contact for AlfaTech.Coordinate, support, and communicate with colleagues across disciplines.Perform submittal and shop drawing reviews and respond to RFIs in a timely manner.Serve as a field engineer during construction by performing site visits and preparing written reports of observations.Maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Manage tasks as required to ensure work is completed on time and within the budget.Attend and be an active participant in the design and construction project team meetings.Must exhibit technical competency and be able to design projects and direct/train/mentor other engineers and designers.Work with a dedicated lighting team to design fully functional lighting and control systems.Use energy compliance software to validate project design is in alignment with governing energy codes (EnergyPro for T24, COMCheck for IECC, etc.)Develop and ensure that all designs are compliant with Building/Energy Codes, and LEED standards.Other duties as assigned.Ideal CandidateHighly knowledgeable of codes, standards, and construction/engineering processes.Exceptional management and supervisory skills.Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with internal and external business partners.Proclivity for catching potential errors and enacting appropriate changes.Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with multiple project deadlines.Experience designing in various sectors of the construction industry including commercial, life sciences, mission critical, industrial, etc.Experience working on hyperscale data center projects is highly desirable.Proficient with SKM power tools or similar.Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).Professional Engineer (PE) license.LEED accredited.Essential RequirementsMinimum 8 – 10 years of relevant experience in the design and engineering field.Very strong knowledge of national, state, and local building codes (NEC, energy codes, etc.)Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, BIM 360/ACC, and Bluebeam Revu.SalaryThis is a hybrid role. It is anticipated that the working days in the office will be done at our San Francisco, CA office. The expected salary range for candidates who will work in San Francisco, CA is $120,000– $155,000.Exact compensation may vary based on prospective employee’s level of skill, experience, and location.
