Your Mission
We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Principal Database Administrator (DBA) to lead the management and optimisation of our database infrastructure. You will design, maintain, and secure large-scale, high-load databases. This role involves driving database strategy, providing technical leadership, and ensuring that our systems are built for high availability, performance, and security.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the administration, optimisation, and maintenance of various relational and non-relational databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, ClickHouse, MongoDB, etc.
2. Design and implement high-availability, fault-tolerant database solutions capable of supporting large-scale, high-load operations.
3. Lead database architecture decisions and work closely with development and operations teams to ensure effective deployment and performance.
4. Ensure robust security measures are in place, including encryption, access control, and comprehensive backup strategies.
5. Conduct performance tuning and optimisation, identifying and eliminating bottlenecks in distributed databases and systems.
6. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior DBAs and team members, helping them navigate complex database challenges.
7. Manage and resolve complex database-related incidents, ensuring swift recovery and minimising downtime.
8. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions align with business goals and system requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. 8+ years of experience in database administration, with deep expertise in PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, MySQL, and distributed databases.
2. Deep experience operating databases in cloud environments with a focus on AWS database offerings.
3. Proficiency in SQL and experience automating database tasks through scripting and tools.
4. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in distributed databases, including performance tuning and bottleneck analysis.
5. Strong knowledge of security practices including encryption, access control, and fault tolerance.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Extensive experience with distributed systems, including designing and managing distributed databases with replication, sharding, and high-availability configurations.
2. Knowledge of virtualisation and containerisation concepts, including experience working with Kubernetes.
3. Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools like Zabbix and Prometheus for maintaining the performance and health of databases.
4. Experience with Change Data Capturing (CDC) techniques.
5. Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide team members through the intricacies of various databases.
