The Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides independent, evidence-based knowledge and science, supporting EU policies to positively impact society.
The current vacancy is in the Innovation Policies and Economic Impact Unit of Directorate B for Fair and Sustainable Economy. Directorate B's mission is to deliver top-notch analysis and data, fostering fair and sustainable prosperity for today's and tomorrow's Europeans. It takes a holistic approach to economic activities, environmental impacts, and EU citizens' needs. With its analytical tools, Directorate B supports policymaking, boosts EU competitiveness, and promotes environmental sustainability in markets, industry, services, and construction.
The Innovation Policies and Economic Impact Unit assesses the performance and impacts, in particular at territorial and industrial levels, of major EU policies and EU investments and shapes them, through innovation policies, towards a fair and sustainable economy. To do so, it provides socio-economic intelligence, to EU, national, regional and local decision makers, using a broad set of analytical tools and economic models.

The new colleague will work as an economic analyst - applied economist / data analyst within the REMO pillar of the TEDAM team, working closely with team members. The main responsibilities of the role include conducting statistical and econometric analyses to support impact assessments, as well as updating and expanding the novel regional data system on EU policies used by the team under the Territorial Economic Data viewer (TEDv). This will involve working with territorial indicators from EUROSTAT regional statistics (i.e. R&D, employment, and sectoral info), data on EU policies such as ESIF and Horizon Europe, and micro-level data including LFS, SILC, CIS.
The role will also require collaboration with other European Commission services, as well as relevant international organisations and research institutions. The work is expected to have a strong impact on policy and visibility, requiring significant effort in external communication and dissemination to policy and scientific fora.
We look for an economic analyst – applied economist/data analyst with experience in econometrics and economic and/or policy analysis.
Candidates must have (essential):
* A minimum of 3 years of research experience after the first degree giving access to doctoral studies;
* Background in Statistics, Economics or other relevant disciplines;
* Knowledge and experience in policy monitoring and evaluation;
* Proficiency in statistical/econometric tools (for example, STATA) and/or good knowledge of data management/programming tools (such as PYTHON);
* A very good level of written and spoken English (C1 level).
The ideal candidate should have (desirable):
* A PhD (doctoral diploma) or, alternatively, university studies of at least three years attested by a diploma plus five years of relevant professional experience;
* Experience in economic and policy analysis, preferably in the areas of research and innovation, and/or cohesion policies at national and/or regional levels;
* Knowledge of the EU regional policy programmes and/or research, innovation and/or cohesion policy programmes;
* Proven record of both empirical research and policy support in the field of regional economics;
* Track record of research and publications.
The candidate should also demonstrate:
* Positive and collaborative attitude;
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks;
* Commitment, motivation and proactivity in pursuing projects;
* Ability to work independently, including the effective management of own workload, as well as to work as a part of a team;
* Ability to identify and focus on the essential elements of issues and processes so as to achieve established goals efficiently;
* Ability to adapt to changing plans and priorities.
