Position: Primary School Principal (Head of Primary) (50% teaching and 50% leadership allocation)
Location: Raoul Wallenberg International School, Palma, Mallorca, Spain
Reporting to: Head of School

The Opportunity
Raoul Wallenberg International School in Palma, Mallorca, is seeking a passionate, organised, and strategic thinker to join our leadership team as Primary School Principal. This is a unique opportunity for a leader who thrives on teamwork and leads by example, helping to build a future-focused, holistic education programme from the ground up in only the second year of the school’s operations. In this pivotal role, the Principal will take full responsibility for the daily operations and coordination of the primary school, while also playing an integral part in shaping its long-term direction.
Core Responsibilities
1. Lead and manage teaching and learning, ensuring high educational standards across the Primary division.
2. Oversee student life, with responsibility for the welfare, behaviour, and personal development of all students.
3. Contribute actively as a member of the School Leadership Team (SLT) to all aspects of school strategic and daily operations.
4. Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), which includes the Head of School, Business Operations Manager, Student Life Coordinator, and Curriculum Coordinator.
5. Take full responsibility for the daily operations and coordination of the primary school.
6. Lead the primary school team, fostering collaboration among classroom teachers and learning support specialists.
7. Work closely with the Head of School to formulate and periodically review the development plan, strategic objectives, and priorities for the Primary division.
8. Monitor progress and ensure targets are met.
9. Provide professional and personal support to primary school teaching staff, fostering a culture of growth and continuous development.
10. Deputise for the Head of School as required.
Program Development and Oversight
1. Actively contribute to the development and growth of RWIS’s core programmes, including character education, sustainability initiatives, and performing arts.
2. Lead the design and implementation of innovative projects and service-learning opportunities that foster student engagement with the local and global community.
Human Resources
1. Line manage all primary school academic staff, with oversight of disciplinary matters.
2. Conduct regular appraisals, lesson observations, and review action plans to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning.
3. Use performance management systems to support the professional development of staff.
4. Contribute to the recruitment and development of both teaching and non-teaching staff.
Resource Management
1. Propose and manage the primary school academic budget, ensuring mission-driven spending and efficient use of resources.
2. Plan and manage staffing, timetabling, and other operational needs.
Leader of Learning
1. Promote high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment practices across the primary division.
2. Oversee the development, organisation, and implementation of the Early Years Lower School curriculum.
3. Design and oversee an approach to assessment for learning and assessment of learning.
4. Ensure that the curriculum offers individual students a coordinated and comprehensive learning journey.
Student Life
1. Work with the Student Life Coordinator in the development and implementation of policies and programs focused on the personal, social, and emotional development of students.
2. Oversee the induction process for new students.
3. Promote positive behaviours and respect among students.
4. Manage the escalation of individual student behavioural concerns.
Community Engagement
1. Act as a key authority and point of contact for parents and guardians.
2. Promote the participation of the school community in achieving goals.
Teaching Responsibilities
In addition to leadership duties, the Primary School Principal will maintain a roughly 50% teaching allotment within the primary division. This may involve:
1. Working as a classroom or specialist subject teacher.
2. Providing learning support for students requiring additional assistance.
3. Acting as an English as an Additional Language (EAL) specialist.

Ideal Candidate
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Education (Master’s degree preferred).
2. Proven leadership experience in a primary school setting, ideally within an international school context.
3. Experience with the Cambridge International Curriculum, British National Curriculum, or IB Primary Years Program (PYP).
4. Strong teaching experience in primary education.
