The role
We are looking for a dynamic and skilled person to join our existing EMEA environmental permitting team - to be based in Madrid or Zaragoza (Spain). The role requires experience in the management and delivery of environmental permits in Spain such as IED permits, EIAs and environmental inputs to other permits.
You will work closely with our real estate, due diligence and design engineering teams to locate and permit AWS infrastructure in Spain. Spanish and English language is critical for this role. Based in Madrid or Zaragoza, this role will involve leading on multiple development projects in Spain. Our scale of growth and success means that this is a fast-paced role and critical to AWS's ongoing success!
Key job responsibilities
1. Environmental permitting - environmental impact assessment (EIAs), IED permitting, natural and cultural heritage assessments, inputs to planning applications.
2. Environmental due diligence - initial environmental risk analysis, site screening, site approvals.
3. Regulatory and agency engagement.
4. Function as a leader regarding regulatory agency interactions, permit, and planning approval processes.
5. Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s Degree in environmental engineering, science, or related field of study.
2. Experience of EU permit evaluations and applications, Environmental Impact Assessments, biodiversity integration, water discharge requirements, and waste management.
3. Experience of environmental permitting in France and Germany.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experienced in managing and delivering multiple sites/projects through permitting in Spain at any one point in time.
2. Highly autonomous and can work with minimal guidance with excellent organizational and project management skills.
3. Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization.
4. Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability across multiple jurisdictions.
5. Travel estimated at 25% in Spain to visit potential sites and sites subject to design and permitting.
