As Head of Editorial Systems and Reporting in the Web of Science editorial team, you will support the editorial leadership in identifying and defining requirements for editorial systems development, and in creating the reporting needed to define team priorities and measure output.
Reporting into the Executive Editor for the Web of Science, you will work with internal data sources to provide the reporting needed to monitor and manage team and systems efficiency and effectiveness. You will also work closely with technology and operational colleagues in ensuring editorial requirements are understood and delivered, and bugs are resolved in a timely fashion, acting as a strong advocate internally for the needs of the editorial team.
This role requires a confident and assertive communicator, who will clearly translate the needs of the editorial team to multiple stakeholders across varying levels of seniority and departments, using a data-driven approach to justifying those needs. This role would suit someone with an interest in how workflows and systems (both on- and offline) can be designed to deliver business goals, the skills to report on the KPIs needed to monitor them, and a passion for high standards of user experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work with the editorial leadership team to build a strong vision for the future of the editorial evaluation platform and how the tasks carried out therein can drive improvements in the efficiency, consistency, and transparency of editorial decision making.
2. Build a strong understanding of the work of the editorial team, identifying pain points and opportunities for improvement in the tools available to them.
3. Capture use cases for systems development and work with the Solutions Analyst and Product Owner to translate these to detailed requirements in Jira.
4. Troubleshoot systems problems on behalf of the editorial users, working with technology teams to identify, define and resolve bugs as needed.
5. Be able to articulate, advocate for, and where appropriate quantify, the benefits of specific developments to effectively prioritize work.
6. Communicate effectively between stakeholders, ensuring critical information is shared accurately.
7. Create bespoke reporting using a variety of internal data sources to support the tracking and management of the editorial pipeline.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
1. Excellent data analysis and presentation skills, with programming and visualization experience a plus.
2. Strong communication skills, particularly in situations in which a strong voice of advocacy is needed.
3. Strong time, project management, and organizational skills.
4. Able to get to grips quickly with new workflows, systems, and processes.
5. A good team player with the ability to work on their own initiative.
6. Excellent English, both written and verbal.
7. Able to set priorities and be flexible in a changing, fast-paced environment.
8. Comfortable working with large data sets.
9. Advanced level of Excel.
10. Previous experience in similar tasks.
Preferred:
1. Knowledge of database querying languages (SQL).
2. Experience generating insights using business intelligence tools such as Tableau.
3. UI/UX skills.
