The Omics Sciences Unit at Eurecat is seeking a highly motivated and skilled post-doctoral researcher to join our cutting-edge research group. Our team focuses on developing innovative metabolomics and proteomics approaches using mass spectrometry and applying them to biomedical research. We are particularly interested in understanding the impact of nutrition, gut microbiota, and environmental exposures (exposome) on human health and investigating interindividual variability in the context of precision medicine.
The research group has a strong track record of high-impact publications and offers a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment with national and international research partners. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on state-of-the-art research projects funded by competitive grants.
This position is part of the "For Ever Young" project, which aims to understand epigenetic processes that lead to aging for the prevention of age-related diseases. A key aspect of this research is understanding the role of post-translational modifications (PTMs) in histone proteins, which are essential for chromatin organization, transcriptional regulation, and cellular function. Given their role in development, aging, cancer, and neurodevelopmental disorders, unraveling how histone-modifying enzymes regulate chromatin landscape and signalling entropy is crucial for ensuring human health.
The candidate will contribute to developing new approaches to investigate PTM in different models and PTM-driven protein behavior, particularly in genome-wide localization and protein-protein interactions. The goal is to integrate experimental and computational methods to improve predictions of protein stability, dynamics, and function based on PTM patterns.
Key Responsibilities
* Integrate and analyze protein structural data, PTMs, and biophysical properties using computational tools and predictive modeling.
* Develop PTM-aware biophysical prediction models and use molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to refine predictions of protein flexibility, conformational changes, and interaction dynamics.
* Perform MS-based proteomics analysis for projects related to medicine, food, and nutrition.
* Develop analytical methods for advanced proteomics workflows, particularly for PTM analysis.
* Operate and troubleshoot nanoLC-MS instruments used for proteomics applications, alongside laboratory technicians.
* Analyze and interpret proteomics datasets using software such as Proteome Discoverer, Spectronaut, and Skyline.
* Collaborate with experts in bioinformatics, structural biology, and cell biology to contextualize findings and advance knowledge on protein function and dynamics.
* Document, report, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Desirable Qualifications
* Strong publication record in international journals.
* Experience with computational proteomics, structural biology, or molecular dynamics (MD) simulations.
* Knowledge of epigenetic regulation and chromatin biology.
* Proficiency in bioinformatics tools for proteomics data analysis.
* Programming skills (Python, R) for integrating proteomics data with structural biology insights.
* Experience in multi-omics data integration (proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics).
* Previous involvement in grant applications and research project management.
