Job Position:
We are looking for a postdoc candidate to be part of the Research team of the ERC Consolidator READ. The selected candidate will carry out research on biomarkers faunal analyses recovered from archaeological sites in Turkey, investigating seasonal changes on diet of caprine populations under process of domestication.
Research Goals Include:
* Build a modern reference data set from modern ancestors of sheep and goat in the Near East
* Biomarkers analysis on fossil tooth enamel samples.
* Reconstruct seasonal and long-term dietary patterns of early sheep and goat domestic specimens
Functions:
The Postdoc will be required to take responsibility for all the steps involved in the zooarchaeological and biomarkers studies to determine the human control over the dietary cycles of early caprine managed during domestication processes. This will involve, but will not be limited to, creating a corpus of biomarkers reference data from modern wild caprine ancestors hosted in different institutions and determining dietary patterns, seasonal foddering strategies, and changes on diet of archaeological sampled specimens from Turkey, Syria, and Jordan. S/he will coordinate, together with the PI and other predocs, mechanical sampling, treatments, and modelling of data.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
* PhD degree in prehistoric archaeology, zooarchaeology, and/or biogeochemistry
* Less than 3 years of post-doctoral experience after the PhD
Computer Science:
* Experience in database management of zooarchaeological remains.
Languages:
* Fluent in English. Other highly valued languages: Turkish and Arabic
Work Experience:
* Research experience in academia, research institutes, or similar institutions on Archeozoological prehistory, especially in Turkey, Syria, and/or Jordan.
* Emphasis on studies related to the process of animal domestication in the Near East.
Other Requirements:
* Availability to travel to Europe and the United States.
* Ability and commitment to work both independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary and international team.
Salary: 25,653.60 € (Gross annual)
