VHIR offers a vacancy for a highly motivated Laboratory Technician within the Microbiology Research Group.
The Research Group of Microbiology at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) focuses on the study of the microbiological aspects involved in infectious diseases aimed at improving basic, translational, and clinical research that could enhance the outcomes of patients with infectious diseases. We work with special interest in studying the mechanisms involved in antimicrobial resistance, sexually transmitted infectious diseases, viral and fungal infections in immunocompromised patients, microbial mechanisms involved in pathogenicity, and microbial epidemiology, as well as in the design and evaluation of new molecular infectious disease diagnostic systems.
Education and Qualifications:
1. Required: FP2 Laboratory Technician or equivalent.
Experience and Knowledge:
1. Required: Proven experience (more than 5 years) in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
2. Expertise in the use of molecular techniques (PCR, TMA, Sanger, and next-generation sequencing) for detection and characterization of human pathogens.
3. Experience with automated laboratory equipment.
4. Knowledge of manual and automated laboratory techniques.
5. Good computer skills, especially in MS Office.
6. Proactive, dynamic, and outstanding organizational skills are required.
7. Desired: Experience in working under Quality Management Systems (UNE-EN-ISO 9001:2015).
8. Knowledge in database management systems (DBMS): creation, maintenance, and manipulation using different programs.
Main Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Manipulation of human biological samples under BSL-2 conditions.
2. Maintenance of several sample collections.
3. Manage clinical samples and laboratory material.
4. Perform experimental assays based on PCR, Sanger sequencing, and next-generation sequencing.
5. Preparation of reagents and maintenance of laboratory stocks and equipment.
6. Stock control of consumables and reagents.
7. Maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Labour Conditions:
1. Part-time position: 48h/month.
2. Schedule: Saturdays and Sundays, from 08:00 to 20:00, on a biweekly basis, and in accordance with the annual plan established in the calendar for each fiscal year.
3. Starting date: February 2025.
4. Gross annual salary: 8,968.71 €.
5. Contract: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to the project activities.
