Hello
We're Happy Scribe, a 100% bootstrapped and profitable startup, based in Barcelona.
We are on a mission to break language barriers globally and bring audiovisual content to all.
We are building the #1 Audiovisual Platform by combining state-of-the-art AI with trusted language experts to produce high-quality transcriptions, subtitles, and AI dubbing at speed.
We're 45 people at the moment, and we're building the team thoughtfully and with a lot of care. How would you like to join us on this journey?
About the role…
This is a hybrid role, based in Barcelona.
As our third designer on the Happy Scribe team,
you’ll join the newly-formed Services Squad to define and create the language workforce of tomorrow. You’ll partner with a cross functional team of specialists in machine learning, agentic LLMs, general software engineering the language industry and a technical Product Manager to reinvent how audio visual languages services are delivered.
Your mission will be to create awesome tools that empower our teams to go above and beyond what’s currently possible. You’ll need to use a mix of agents, software and linguists to deliver our services on time, on budget and on quality. Doing so you will play a crucial part in defining and building the future of how an entire industry works. If successful, we expect this to reshape our 100b market.
What you will do…
1. Deliver intuitive, user-centred experiences across the entire service journey.
2. Play a key role in redefining the future of work for linguists by leveraging AI to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and improve the quality of language services.
3. Work fully autonomously from discovery to delivery; you will be in charge of pursuing user research and converting it into delightful product user experiences.
4. Create a design vision for new features and products, drive engagement and excitement throughout the company.
5. Collaborate with teams across different functions, including AI engineers and language experts to bring your flows to life.
6. Expect to learn how to code, and do some coding yourself in the role.
What you will bring…
1. 4+ years experience as a UX designer, with a focus on delivering exceptional user-centred designs to complex problems.
2. Strong interest in working on AI features and designing for technical user base.
3. Strong research skills: you know how to conduct user interviews, run usability tests, and analyse qualitative and quantitative data to inform design decisions.
4. A clear design methodology: you know where you're going and have actionable plans (A, B, and C) to achieve your goals while staying focused on user needs.
5. A strong entrepreneurial mindset: you thrive in scrappy, fast-paced environments and aren’t afraid to share early iterations to gather user and team feedback. You ship to learn.
6. Proven experience leading complex UX initiatives driven by deep user insights and needs.
7. Strong communication skills to advocate for research and design insights, influence roadmaps, and align stakeholders around a shared vision for the user experience.
Bonus points if…
1. You know how to code.
2. You’ve previously designed for AI solutions with human in the loop reinforcement.
3. You’ve previously been part of creating and defining the ownership area of a squad.
4. You’ve been an early designer at a rapidly growing team, helping establish foundational UX and research practices and contributing to a strong design culture.
What we offer…
1. Competitive salary — our salaries are in the top percentiles of the Barcelona startup scene.
2. Equity — By joining the company when the team is so small, you’re helping us set the foundations of our future success.
3. Mental health support — We have partnered with Oliva to offer you the best mental health support, from day 1.
4. 30 days per year vacation time — To relax and recharge your batteries whenever you need to.
