About BSC
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe). BSC's mission is to research, develop, and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth, and engineering sciences) under one roof, with over 1000 staff from 60 countries. Context And Mission
Within the Life Sciences Department, we are looking for a junior research engineer RE1 to work with the Social Link Analytics unit. This unit analyzes data related to biology and medicine, evaluating their impact on scientific advancement in society. The main areas of activity include:
1. Leading the Bioinfo4Women programme.
2. Research on sex and gender biases in health and Artificial Intelligence.
3. Studying the spread of disinformation in the media and social networks.
4. Conducting evaluations of AI applications in the health sector.
In this context, the successful candidate will help develop LLMs integration within current projects.
Key Duties
* Contribute to the unit’s project in deploying LLMs pipelines.
* Run analysis pipelines and present results.
* Develop new methodological approaches to meet the data's particularities.
Requirements
* Education
o Degree in Computer Science, Computer Architectures, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Physics, or similar.
o Master’s Degree in relevant fields or in the process of presenting the TFM.
o Or higher education (FPII).
* Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Experience in software development and at least one of the following:
1. Python programming language.
2. Web programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Javascript, HTML, CSS, Django/Flask).
o Experience with AI development and Data Analysis.
* Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Experience with LLMs.
o Minimal experience with Linux-based environments.
o Experience with Python data tools (e.g., Pandas, Numpy, Jupyter Notebooks, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib/Seaborn).
o Good communication skills in Spanish and English (both written and spoken); Catalan is a plus.
* Competences
o Ability to understand scientific literature and software documentation.
o Ability to work in a team and in a multicultural environment.
Conditions
* The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department.
* We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and support for relocation procedures.
* Duration: until 31/12/2025.
* Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December.
* Salary: competitive salary based on qualifications and experience.
