GENERAL CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières is an international independent medical-humanitarian organization, which aids populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.
MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
The Psychiatrist leads the technical support for mhGAP clinicians remotely (via confidential and secure Telemedicine solutions) and face-to-face. This position will contribute to boosting MSF´s ambitions to have quality psychiatric care as a standard feature of MSF’s medical action, specifically when delivering Mental Health and Psychosocial Support packages, ensuring technical capacity to provide quality psychiatric support for MSF patients. In addition, the Psychiatrist will be part of the network of MSF telemedicine specialists on Store and Forward Telemedicine Platform providing expert opinion on psychiatric cases.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Training, supervision and coaching
o Support field teams in management of psychiatric cases through direct supervision, on the job-training for clinicians responsible for patient care, as well as co-management and occasional provision of direct psychiatric care, telemedicine consultations in exceptional cases in real-time as needed for complex/severe cases.
o Provide trainings (remotely and face-to-face) to medical doctors (general practitioners), nurses and other clinical staff, on psychiatric care based on MSF Protocol for Pharmacological Management of Mental Disorders and mhGAP intervention guide 2.0 (and 3.0), and on the best evidence on non-pharmacological care.
o Run regular supervision sessions with field mhGAP clinicians, mainly remotely. mhGAP clinicians are usually medical doctors (general practitioners), nurses or other non-specialized clinical practitioners who have the capacity to diagnose and treat people with mental health conditions.
o In field visits assess quality of the psychiatric care provided, clinical/technical needs, perform gap analysis, provide training and live supervisions.
o Review monthly psychiatry databases and provide feedback to projects.
o Consistently build rapport with the relevant practitioners through participation in training, supervisions and field visits.
o Reinforce multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary teamwork throughout reinforcing internal and external referral pathways, as well as the roles of the different profiles integrating the MHPSS teams. Whenever relevant, involve other profiles (e.g., MHAM, MHS, psychologists, counsellors, etc.) in the supervision or training sessions.
o Support MH advisors and the projects to improve psychiatric activities and outcomes in the projects by sharing regular updates with the concerned internal stakeholders (MH advisors and regional technicians, MHAM, PMR, MedCo, etc.) on progress with their activities, identifying gaps and challenges, and proposing possible solutions.
o Develop and keep an updated database of psychiatric cases discussed/consulted.
o Be part of the global network of MSF Telemedicine Specialists using store and forward telemedicine services, provide clinical support to assigned psychiatric cases and inquiries from all MSF projects included in the system, based on the allocation policy.
o Regular meetings and coaching of field psychiatrists, when requested by MH Advisor-Psychiatrist.
o Support with the development of practical tools for field teams to improve the quality of psychiatric care.
o Review and support on estimations for IMO (International Medical Order).
o Any other task delegated by MH Advisor-Psychiatrist.
SELECTION CRITERIA
* A Diploma in Psychiatry (MD specialized in Psychiatry) from a qualified University program.
* MSF experience as MD, MAM, MHAM (including experience in mhGAP training and implementation) is essential.
* Fluent in English and French are required. Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic are an asset.
* Previous experience in delivering mhGAP trainings and supervision of GPs is a strong asset.
* Previous experience with telemedicine systems and platforms is a valuable capacity.
* Psychotherapy training and experience is highly perceived.
CONDITIONS
* Position based in any MSF OCBA Hub (Barcelona, MSF-Spain office delegations, Amman, Dakar or Nairobi). Final location will be subject to the employability of the preselected candidate (residency, work permit, etc.).
* Part-time position (80%). Full-time extension to be considered.
* Duration: 12 months with possibility of extension.
* Annual gross salary: HQ 3B level + secondary benefits, based on MSF OCBA reward policy or contracting section policy. Subjected to local conditions.
* Starting date: 7th of January 2025.
