Job Purpose
The Director of Network will lead the execution of Vueling’s network strategy over the next five years, ensuring alignment with corporate goals to enhance market presence and profitability. This role drives sustainable growth through strategic planning, market analysis, and cross-functional collaboration with key departments such as Commercial, Sales, Operations, and Fleet Management.
Key responsibilities include optimizing fleet utilization, improving financial performance, and integrating advanced analytics to drive innovation. The Director will lead a team of 10+ professionals and play a crucial role in the Network & Strategy leadership group.
Main Accountabilities
* Achieve an optimized network that balances short term profit optimization with building strategic positions in the long term.
* Maintain and improve profitability metrics for network operations.
* Coordinate route performance forums and actionable plans to correct when needed for both new and existing routes.
* Achieve high utilization rates and operational reliability.
* Stay ahead of industry trends and adapt strategies to maintain competitive advantage.
* Gain sustained backing and resources from top management for strategic network plans, and alignment across stakeholders for successful delivery.
* Achieve superior fleet utilization rates that reduce overall operating costs while meeting service standards.
* Successfully execute business plans that support sustainable growth and operational excellence.
* Secure advantageous agreements that enhance the airline’s commercial results and market presence.
* Develop a high-performing team with strong capabilities in network planning.
* Leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance decision-making processes and competitive positioning.

Main Responsibilities - Tasks
* Oversee the development and implementation of our network strategy and capacity planning, and align it with the airline’s strategic goals to improve market presence and maximize profitability.
* Oversee the financial performance of network and routes, to ensure routes and network decisions contribute positively to the bottom line.
* Ensure team works with other commercial and sales departments, to ensure route viability and alignment with market demand and marketing strategies.
* Coordinate with operations and fleet management, to ensure operational feasibility and efficiency of the network plan.
* Oversee competitive analysis and market research, to identify emerging markets and potential threats, shaping the network strategy accordingly.
* Communicate strategic directions and updates to senior management, at Vueling and IAG, to ensure transparency and support for strategic initiatives at the executive level.
* Optimize network and fleet utilization, to efficiently align fleet and crew availability with the network demands, enhancing operational efficiency.
* Lead a team of approximately 10 high potential individuals at different levels of seniority – from analysts, managers, and heads of.
* Be part of the Network and Strategy leadership group, to take the department to its full potential.
* Drive innovation to adopt and integrate advanced analytics and technology in route and network planning.
* Represent the airline in industry forums and events, to enhance the airline's industry standing.
Main Relationships
* Strategy Dept.: Collaborate to align network plans with corporate strategy and BP.
* Commercial Dept.: Coordinate to optimize route profitability and market penetration.
* Operations Dept.: Work closely to ensure operational feasibility of network strategies. Alignment on resources, both manpower and fleet.
* Finance Dept.: Interface to ensure budget adherence and financial viability of network.
* Marketing Dept.: Partner to develop market entry and promotions for new routes.
* HR: Engage to ensure adequate staffing and training for network expansion.
* Legal Dept.: Consult to navigate regulatory compliance.
* IT Dept.: Collaborate on implementing tools essential for network planning.
Education
* University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, or Aviation Management is needed, providing the necessary analytical and strategic skills.
* Must have comprehensive knowledge of airline network development, competitive analysis, market research, and financial modeling.
Experience
* 10 years of experience in network planning, strategy, or commercial roles within the aviation industry; consulting experience is also relevant.
* Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects in dynamic environments.
* Extensive experience in strategic planning and executing business plans aligned with long-term corporate objectives.
