About BSCThe Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is now the hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, which leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. We promote Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, fostering an environment where each individual is appreciated for who they are, regardless of differences.Context And MissionWithin the Life Sciences Department, we are looking for a junior research engineer RE1 to work with the Social Link Analytics unit. This unit analyzes data related to biology and medicine, aiming to evaluate their impact on scientific advancement in society. Key areas of activity include:
* Leading the Bioinfo4Women programme of the Life Department.
* Research on sex and gender biases in health and Artificial Intelligence.
* Study the spread of disinformation in media and social networks, tracking its propagation and evolution of narratives.
* Conducting a comprehensive evaluation of AI applications in the health sector, considering technical, human, and social dimensions.
In this context, the successful candidate will help develop LLMs integration within current projects and design suitable solutions for generating, processing, and analyzing data.Key Duties
* Analyse ML training datasets to identify biases.
* Support coordination of the Bioinfo4Women programme research line.
* Disseminate results through data visualisations, scientific articles, blogs, and online media posts.
Requirements
* Education
o Degree in Computer Science, Computer Architectures, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Physics, or similar.
o Master’s Degree in the aforementioned fields or in the process of presenting the TFM.
o Or higher education (FPII).
* Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Experience in Python programming language.
o Experience in AI development and Data Analysis.
o Experience in web programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Javascript, HTML, CSS, WordPress).
o Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
o Experience with Python data tools (e.g., Pandas, Numpy, Jupyter Notebooks, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib/Seaborn).
o Minimal experience with Linux-based environments is appreciated.
* Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Good communication skills, including proficiency in Spanish and English (both written and spoken). Catalan language skills are also appreciated.
* Competences
o Ability to understand scientific literature and software documentation.
o Ability to work in a team and in a multicultural environment.
Conditions
* The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department.
* We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and support for relocation procedures.
* Duration: until 31/12/2025.
* Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement.
* Salary: a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience according to the cost of living in Barcelona.
