Job Description
The Omic Sciences Department carries out its activities using state-of-the-art infrastructures at the Centre for Omic Sciences (COS), a unique center equipped with the latest metabolomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, and genomics technologies. It offers a comprehensive range of biomarker research services across health, food, and environmental sectors, from project design support to the analysis and integration of data obtained from various omics technologies.
We are looking for a highly skilled Metabolomics Technician to join our omics sciences service team. This position requires strong expertise in analytical chemistry, particularly mass spectrometry (MS) and liquid chromatography (LC-MS), applied to metabolomics and lipidomics research. The successful candidate will be involved in developing cutting-edge methodologies and contributing to high-impact biomedical projects.
Responsibilities
As a valued member of our team, your role encompasses several critical dimensions:
* Develop and optimize novel LC-MS and GC-MS methods for metabolomics and lipidomics analysis.
* Perform sample preparation, mass spectrometry (MS) acquisition, and data analysis for metabolomics research.
* Maintain and troubleshoot high-end mass spectrometry instrumentation and ensure high-quality results.
* Implement quality control (QC) and validation protocols in metabolomics workflows.
* Develop strategies for metabolite identification, annotation, and quantification using advanced data processing tools (e.g., MS-DIAL, XCMS, mzMine).
* Actively participate in scientific publications, documentation, and protocol standardization.
* Provide support for research projects and collaborate with national and international partners.
* Assist in ordering supplies, maintaining chemical databases, and laboratory organization.

Requirements
Qualifications:
* PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
Knowledge And Experience
* Extensive experience in mass spectrometry and chromatography (LC-MS, GC-MS, and/or HRMS).
* Strong background in metabolomics, lipidomics, and/or glycomics methodologies.
* Knowledge of software tools for MS data processing (e.g., MassHunter, MS-DIAL, mzMine, …).
* Experience in data preprocessing.
* Experience in handling and maintaining mass spectrometry instrumentation.
* High motivation for research and scientific documentation/publication.
* Excellent organizational skills, teamwork abilities, and problem-solving mindset.
* English (B1 or higher) and fluency in Spanish and Catalan.
Additional Valued Skills
* Experience in preparing biofluid samples for analysis.
* Familiarity with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality management systems.
* Knowledge of machine learning applications in metabolomics, statistical analysis (univariate/multivariate), and bioinformatics tools.
