Internship Pharmacology
Mission
The Almirall Research team in Barcelona is strengthening its core experimental department and is looking for a talented student with experience in in vivo Pharmacology. The team is enabling the small molecule and biologics pipeline from discovery up to preclinical development, and is co-responsible for delivery of high quality therapeutic drug candidates with a high potential for success in clinical development.
Tasks and Responsibilities
* Perform in vivo studies to answer scientific questions and to characterize MoA and efficacy of compounds including new drug candidates.
* Perform a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, using state of the art laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy.
* Plan and initiate established and new experimental approaches with a high level of independence.
* Analyse and interpret experimental results and prepare reports/presentations.
* Assist team members in planning and execution of experiments.
* Work in a matrixed, fast-paced highly collaborative environment with shared responsibilities.
* Effectively communicate within and across teams.
* Carry out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols.
* Conduct literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggest uses for new techniques to the team.
* Maintain records of results and methodologies in electronic laboratory notebook.
* Maintain equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner.
* Attend courses, lectures and conferences to further own knowledge on research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers to exchange information.
* Contribute to an enriching, positive and inclusive lab environment.
Education & Experience
* Bachelor of Science and at least 1 year of experience in a research lab.
* EU license to work in procedures and projects on laboratory animal science or equivalent is a plus.
* Proficiency in mouse handling and dosing.
* Ability to independently conduct tissue sample processing and analysis from rodents and/or minipigs using state of the art technologies.
* Excellent aseptic cell culture technique for handling human and murine primary cells and transformed cell lines.
* Ideally experience in RT-PCR, ELISA, Flow Cytometry and Western Blot techniques.
* Ideally experience in state of the art immunology techniques to support isolation and ex vivo analysis of cells from animal tissues or human skin samples is a plus.
Preferred Skills & Competences
* Strong attention to detail and analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
* Proficiency in the use of software tools to support data analysis (e.g., Prism, FlowJo, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
* Ability to critically interpret and effectively present data.
* Ability to take accountability and to prioritize work.
* Adaptability to shifting priorities and changing work assignments.
