The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is looking for a veterinarian co-supervisor to supervise the day-to-day management within the Advanced Surgery Area, under the supervision and guidance of the Head of the Area, at the Comparative Medicine and Bioimage Centre (CMCiB).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
* Requires possession of a veterinary degree.
* Requires registration with the COVB or the ability to register.
* Requires demonstrable experience of 5 years in veterinary practice or research centres with large animals.
* Requires demonstrable experience in team management / people for at least 2 years, with the willingness and abilities to coordinate and manage multidisciplinary groups in their daily tasks.
* Requires willingness to work with animal models of different species, both large and small animals, at different levels of biocontainment, and with alternative methods, including anatomical specimens and tissues, in order to support biomedical research.
* Requires proficiency in both spoken and written English.
The following will be valued :
* Having completed a master's degree, postgraduate courses, or other regulated post-university training.
* Having the required training for functions a, b, and c for animal experimentation.
* Experience working with quality regulations (GLP, GMP, AAALAC, ISO...).
* Experience in gas anaesthesia and surgery, as well as in the use of diagnostic technologies for veterinary imaging (X-ray, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, laparoscopy, endoscopy...).

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
* Act as the supervising veterinarian for the day-to-day management in the surgical and diagnostic imaging area, under the supervision and guidance of the Head of the Area, being responsible for coordinating the proper execution of the various scheduled activities, as well as optimizing the operation and coordination of the team during working hours.
* Coordinate and actively participate in the annual training plan for the different profiles within the team in the area, under the supervision and guidance of the Head of the Area, to ensure their competence and skills in the defined functions.
* Participate in preclinical experimental research projects using alternative methods and large animal models (rabbit, pig, and sheep), in various medical fields such as interventional surgery, endoscopic surgery and laparoscopy, cardiology, neurology, and new technologies applied to operating rooms.
* Coordinate and participate in organizing training programs in medical technologies for third parties.
* Care for the facilities, experimental operating rooms, equipment, materials, and housed animals.
* Perform surgical anaesthesia, assist surgeons, provide care, conduct minor interventions, and carry out medical-surgical treatments for the animals.
* Ensure the well-being of all animals housed at the centre, and be available for medical emergencies and incidents with housed animals.
* Perform and supervise data recording in manual registers and the computer system, in a timely and appropriate manner, following the centre’s quality standards. The duties to be performed by the candidate will be detailed.
* Follow and supervise compliance with biosafety standards and occupational risk prevention laws, ensuring the correct use of PPE and decontamination processes in each area.
* Perform support tasks as a research technician in barrier, conventional, or NCB3 spaces with rodent models, and provide support to all sections of the CMCiB as needed, following the guidelines set by the Head of the Area or Technical Director.
